Cloth Diapering

Going to buy a CD stash this week. Need advice!

I don't know how many exclamation points showed up on my title. I'm mobile so I can't see and I think I pressed a few times. Forgive me if I sound eager!

I've got my husband on board to CD for the most part, but I want to ease him in slowly so he doesn't get Daddy shock and completely give up. He's agreed to let me buy 100 worth this month, 100 next month.

So, orginally I had planned on using gDiapers and buying the set on Amazon which has the tiny diapers and flushable liners. The more I read, the more I'm not crazy about spending 119 on something and then baby growing out really fast.

On the opposite end, or maybe in the middle, I really fell in love with Govia. I saw a site where a girl did a side by side with Grovia and Flip. I am sold on the Grovias with the option of the bio liners for my husband to use. She showed how it worked with a FuzziBunz as well and that's a double plus in my book.

I don't know, and this may be a two or three part question, so bear with me, if you can use the Bio liners with a Charlie Banana pocket and Trend Lab AI2. I would assume so since it is lined and the FuzziBunz is lined. I know they don't recommend you stick the liner directly on the PUL if you're using the liner not in a Grovia. Does anyone have experience with the Bio liner on something other than a FuzziBunz or Grovia?

Okay, next questions. What is the best diaper to start out with? I'm going to do disposables in the hospital just for the mere convenience and I don't want to be overwhelmed and out of my territory and just have a freak out. This is where my love for the gDiaper tiny comes in. They are just so tiny and come with 12, and disposable inserts and all that good stuff.

And how big does the baby have to be to use the BioLiner?

If I'm not clear, feel free to flame me! I'm really dedicated and want my husband to be. It's a miracle he even agreed to try it.

  • If your able to go on facebook then check out The Orange Kitty Coop. Its a coop that gets large quantities of baby items such as cloth diapers and leggings and such for whole sale prices. I've just started getting into cd's and they're super helpful and I bought my first all in one diapers made of minky cloth for only 4.50 a diaper!!
  • Woohoo! I'll wait until then. And I'm going to check out that Facebook site.

  • I have to say that using AIOs or pockets might be easier for your husband than the Bioliners (in either gDiapers or Grovia). When my baby was tiny, my husband LOVED the Lil Joeys-- I got 10 for $100 on Black Friday. Since I didn't want to spend TOO much money, I used prefolds and covers (saved the Lil Joey's for the middle of the night changes and for Daddy Duty).

Honestly, if you are trying to make this "Dad-friendly," I think that the least complicated, the better, and using liners, snap-ins, etc. might be off-putting. For what it's worth, my husband's favorite diapers are Charlie Banana pockets-- I always save those ones for him to use.

His biggest thing is the soiled cloth. He doesn't want to touch it, have it in a pail, have to deal with washing etc. He wants to do disposables so he can throw that junk in a trash and haul it off. That's why I gravitated to, at first, the gDiapers.

  • I just wanted to chime in about the gdiapers. I used them early on and still have a couple that I use occasionally. I'm glad I only got a couple. At first I thought they'd be great...super cute, soft and fitted. But, they tend to leak for us...especially with those bf poops! I use fuzzibunz, BG 4.0, and prefolds for the most part and don't have leak issues with those. Pocket dipes are super easy. Currently though, my favorites are prefolds.

    Regarding the soiled cloth:

I have both the gDiaper disposable inserts as well as the Grovia ones. I have to say that the disposable inserts are a lot messier (when it comes to poo) than an AIO, pocket diaper, or prefold, even. You have to pull out the liner without touching the poo (which is quite impossible), and then roll it up without squishing any poo out the sides in order to toss it (also impossible). With an AIO, pocket, or prefold, you just throw the whole thing in the cloth pail (at least until we start solids). I then empty the pail liner inside-out into the washing machine, so I never even have to deal with the poo. Once we start solids, my plan is to line the cloth diapers, and when there is a poo, the poo+ liner gets flushed. I haven't actually done this yet, though.

Also, my husband wasn't thrilled about the soiled cloth either. Our compromise was that I would do the diaper washing. Diaper laundry is not a big deal, so you could always try to convince the husband on that one. Whether you use Grovia, gDiapers, or something else with biodegradable inserts, you will still get pee/poo on the covers and still have to do diaper laundry anyway.

  • The g diaper set I bought at babies r us comes with 6 size small diapers too. I used my registry completion coupon on it so it was $114. I bought an extra pack of liners and the cloth inserts, too.
