New Traditions?

Now that the holidays are coming up, will you be starting any new traditions with your LOs? 2+ moms, what are some traditions that you have?

We went to the pumpkin patch and will paint lil G's pumpkin. For Christmas Eve, I think I want it to be a tradition to give my kid(s) pj's and a book.

What are some of your ideas?

Re: New Traditions?

  • I was just thinking about this the other day. My mom would give my sisters and I a Christmas ornament every year (or several- she looooves Christmas ornaments) and so when we were ready to move out of the house we each had a box of ornaments for our own trees. I love to decorate my tree with them because I remember each year I got them, and they all have special little memories tied to them. So I definitely want to do something like that.

I also want to get a nice copy of The Night Before Christmas that we can read to our kids every Christmas Eve. I like the idea of pjs as well- maybe we will open PJs as our Christmas Eve gift and then wear them to bed that night...

  • thats soo cute..Christmas eve, PJs and a book...I think I'm going to have to steal that one! :) So far we have LO will go with dh to pick out the christmas tree the first weekend in Dec and decorate the tree as a family.

Breakfast on Christmas Day in PJs and then open gifts.

Thats what we have so far...

  • One that we already have is an ornament signifying a major event for that year. We have our 1st Christmas, an ornament that goes with our wedding theme (mid summer's night dream) and we have a peapod for our sweetpea last year

I will definitely be doing the pajamas every year

And cookies for santa and mini food for the elves (thank you pinterest) is adorable. We always left a coke, an orange, and chocolate chip cookies out for Santa, We'll continue that.

  • I was never big on celebrating Halloween, but now that we have DS we'll be going to the pumpkin patch/hayride. I've never been to one so I'm so excited! I'm going to continue the Christmas Eve tradition that I grew up doing as kid. My mom always let little brother and I open one gift from our stocking on Xmas Eve, give us homemade peanut butter cookies and we'd watch The Grinch. DS is too little for all of that now, but I would like to continue that tradition.

  • Christmas is so hard for me because we didn't have any traditions growing up - we didn't even have Santa! All our gifts were from Mom and Dad. DH and I host a casual turkey dinner for both sides of the family on Christmas Eve. We started doing it a few years ago so we could stop doing 5 days of visiting in preparation of being able to stay home on Christmas Day with our kids. Now that DS is here, I'm planning on having dinner earlier (like 4pm instead of 6:30pm), and giving DS new pajamas on Christmas Eve, and am thinking about getting matching ones for DH and I. I also want to get a nice copy of the night before Christmas. Maybe once DS is older we'll watch a Christmas movie and drink hot chocolate. That's about as far as I got!

  • I plan on doing the Christmas ornament thing like the PP (plus I figure when he's older he'll be so excited to pick his own ornament!) & buy him a christmas book & read it to him on christmas eve.. plan on doing that every year! :)
