Success after IF

XP: Not SAIF Related...Plastic Surgery Anyone??

Ok-so I'm kinda going out of my comfort zone a bit by asking this question...but I'm going to go for it anyways. :)

So I'm thinking of getting a Breast Reduction....but I would really like to know if anyone has been through it.  If so-what was your experience...did you regret it, or wish you had gone smaller? Kept it a bit bigger?  RIght now....it's causing me some severe lower back pain, neck pain, and it's becoming increasingly hard to excercise because they literally HURT during and after. The lack of excercise is taking a toll on my physically, emotionally, and mentally. I'm currently a 44DD/46DD depending on the bra.  I'd contemplated doing it before we got married-but I always wanted to breastfeed so I didn't do it.  Now, since that isn't in the cards-I'm thinking more about it.

I would like to know your experiences...or if you know a woman who has had one...what was her response after the fact.

TIA!

  • I wanted to reply. I have a good friend that had a breast reduction her freshman yr of college for same reason, back pain, neck pain trouble exercising.  She had a half reduction, I have no idea how big she was before but she's a  D now.

All of her back problems disappeared after having it done, she says she would do it again if she had to.  I hope that helps.

I am not trying to be rude in any way when I say this so please don't take it this way. I assume since you wear a 44/46 bra that you are a bigger girl (like me, I am on the last rung of a 42DDD right now). If you plan on losing weight in the future, I would wait. My SIL was my size (260ish lbs) when she had a breast reduction, then she lost 100lbs. She became completely flat chested and once she had lost 50 lbs, regretted the reduction like you would not believe.  Now she is gaining the weight back and is STILL flat chested. You need a better sports bra. I actually wear two when I work out, a cheapy one from Target and a nice Nike one over it. I will be getting one once I a) lose a good amount of this weight and b) finish nursing this child and hopefully a second. I would just wait to see if your body takes care of the "problem" naturally.

  • My cousin had a breast reduction a number of years ago.  She was similar to you with the backpain, etc.  Her doctor recommended that she lose about 20 pounds before the reduction.  She did and it didn't make a difference.  She said that the first week of recovery was torture, but since then it's been great.  And she looks and feels terrific!

  • I had the procedure done about 6 years ago.  I was a 38DDD/F and it has been one of the best things I have ever done for myself.  I was worried at first about being too small, but after several long discussions with my surgeon I decided on a C (I am now a 34c).  At first they seemed a bit small but I guess anything would compare to the size I was.

The first 3 days were the toughest, not extreme pain just sore.  Once the drain tubes came out life was a lot easier.  To be honest I was up and ready to go back to work in a week.  I took an extra week off and just spent that time shopping for new tops!!

I think the one thing I didn?t expect was the emotional part of the whole deal.  Just prepare yourself as crazy as I may sound it was like a part of me was missing as if my boobs defined me in some strange way.

I would be happy to answer any questions that I can, feel free to email me ms-1007@hotmail.com

  • I knew someone that also had a reduction done for the same reasons...insurance paid for it b/c of the physical and emotional pain it was causing her.  She was thrilled she did it. Good luck making a decision.
  • oh honey GET IT!!! you deserve it and those things would kill me too!!!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • not sure if all docs do the same but mine did lipo on my back fat and the sides around boob area as well...entire procedure was covered by ins .

  • I have had 2 relatives and a friend have the procedure, one was thrilled, one gained weight and is now having problems again, and the 3 had the procedure, lost 100lb's and now regrets it.  She may have still needed it after losing weight, but she wishes she had lost the weight first.

  • I had planned to have it done in Sept, but got pg again...  I plan to do it as soon as I'm done BFing #2 (if that works this time)...  I am a 34DDD/F and plan to go to a 34 full B/small C..  My insurance will cover it.  I'm worried about having it done and taking care of 2 kids, but I really need them down sized.  I'm in pain every day, clothes don't fit, and I think they make me look heavy and I'm not...  I say go for it...  I wish my parents had taken me to get it done when I was younger...  I'm sooooooo ready for "normal" boobs..
  • Dec. 7th will be 8 years ago that I had mine done. I was overweight when i had it done, but nothing too bad. If he is a good surgeon, he will suggest trying to lose weight first before having it done.

I was a 38 DDD/F at the time. I was 20. I had huge grooves in my shoulders from my bras. I had to go to specialty shops sometimes to find a bra that would fit. I couldn't do physical activity without a lot pain, I definitely couldn't run, I had back pain all the time, and I couldn't sleep on my back because the weight of them would cause me breathing troubles. My breasts had been close to that big even when I wasn't overweight. I was reduced to a 38 C after surgery. My surgeon did lipo around my armpits and ribs as well. The entire procedure was covered by insurance too.

That said, I would do it again ever day of the week. Its one of the best things i ever did for myself, my health, and my confidence. I have gained weight since thanks to PCOS and IF medication, but my breasts have settled into a 40 D now. I am still satisfied with the results 8 years later.

  • I will be getting one done after I have DC #2. ?I am petite (size 4-6 pants) and wear like a 34DDD/E bra. ?I will get them down to like a B plus/C minus. ?

I've heard the recovery is rough- like 2 weeks off your feet. ?It's also pricey and often not covered by insurance, although you might get a doc to say you did it for medical reasons if you have back pain. ?You'll have pretty bad scars from it that will never go away and you might lose nipple sensation. ?
