How much do you feed them at each "meal"?
Kate isn't tolerating rice cereal/oatmeal, so I've decided not to give it to her. However, because I'm a creature of habit, I feel uneasy about it. DD1 never had any issues with solids, so she would eat 1/2 container of fruit + 2 tablespoons of oatmeal in the morning, 1/2 container of veggie + 1/2 container of fruit in the afternoon, and 1/2 container of veggie + 2 tablespoons of oatmeal in the evening. Someone please tell me it's okay not to give their LO cereal...lol!
Re: If you feed your LO fruits and veggies but no oatmeal/cereal...
I have no advice on whether you need to give some sort of "cereal", except to ask did you try barley? My Ped told us to try rice, oatmeal and barley. DD didn't tolerate the rice well either. She has done better with the oatmeal and so far good with the barley. The rice was an issue when I tried to give it to her at dinnertime rather then the morning. I started only feed her solids 1x a day in the morning and I think that helps a lot. I'm actually nervous to up it to 2x a day so we are taking it slow at this point.

DD hated cereal, so we're not even bothering to give it to DS. With DD, at first we introduced one at a time, but then we usually ended up giving her half of one and half of another.
It's certainly okay to not bother with cereal. It doesn't have much nutritional value anyway.
Store-bought cereals are actually filled with vitamins and minerals, so I really hate when people say this. The most important is the iron. If your baby is BF and you are not doing cereal, make sure you are giving iron in other ways, such as iron rich veggies or Poly-vi-sol drops. If your LO is formula fed, this is not an issue, as formula includes iron.
Next time you are at the store, check out the nutrition label on the cereal package before you keep saying it has no value. Also FTR, up to 1 year, solids are for "practice" not for nutrition. BM and formula are still the main source of nutrition at this age.
Sorry if this came off as flaming. It just drives me batty when people say that.
Thanks for correcting me.
