Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Feeding a 9 mo?

Do you offer nursing or solids first? If nursing, do you offer solids right after or wait a bit? How often are you nursing and offering solids? My son is 8.5 months old and nurses around 6 times a day and usually just takes some solids for dinner about an hour and a half before his bedtime nursing. I'm not sure this is enough but he's only just recently been more accepting of solids in general.

Re: Feeding a 9 mo?

  • At around 9 months, my daughter used to wake up around 6:30, nurse, eat breakfast around 7/7:30, nurse a bit before her nap at 8:30, nurse at 10 when she woke up, have some lunch around noon, nurse a bit before her next nap at 2 or so, again when she woke up, and then have dinner and nurse again before bed...I basically just offered her food at my own meal times if she was awake for them. I always offered to nurse before giving her solids and sometimes again after just in case.

  • Thank you that is helpful!
  • We started solids at 6 months very gradually. Now, at 9 months, he nurses or takes a 3 oz bottle of breast milk every 2 hrs and the only way I've been able to have success with him taking solids is to offer them right before his bottle/nursing. If he's not hungry he won't take them. Even waiting an hour isnt enough for him to want them. We've worked up to 4x a day but the serving sizes are pretty small. He is usually done after 2 ounces. Unless its banana or oatmeal but of course those are the things that constipated him so we give those sparingly.

  • Ok I'm just glad I'm not the only one whose baby does not eat like a 5 year old would!
