Bed rest = TERRIBLE RLP anyone?

Morning ladies! I've been on very strict bed rest (really shouldn't even be getting up to pee, honestly) for the last week and a half and ever since Saturday, I've had 1-3 episodes a day of really awful round ligament pain. It's almost completely immobilizing! My legs start to shake, I can barely move, the pain radiates around my back to my buttocks, down my leg a bit, and I feel nauseated and just terrible for about 15-25 minutes. It's really only happening on the right lower side of my belly. After the first episode, I was very sore on that side for a few days.

I did ask my doctor and he said that because my uterus is growing and I'm not really moving much during the day, my ligaments aren't used to the additional strain and it's easy to injure myself.

Anyone else? Any suggestions for working my ligaments and getting them used to the additional weight? It hurts so bad to lay on my right side most of the time now, even with support.

Thanks for any advice!

Also: I'm not having any contractions when this is happening.

Edited for more info.

  • I'm sorry you're having so much pain! When I first went on bed rest everything ached! Make sure you are propped up with lots of pillows and try to change positions when you can. Do you have a recliner? That's what my nurse recommended and I found if I alternated between that, couch, and bed throughout the day it helped. I would just switch places when you get up to pee if you can. You can also use a heating pad if that helps.

    Hope your pain subsides soon!

  • I had a lot of it too when I first went on bed rest. Mine switched sides depending on which side I was laying on. Lots of pillows to prop up the belly and hips helped. Make sure you're drinking enough water too (even though ironically, it makes you pee more) but if you're dehydrated it can make muscle cramps worse.

I've definitely noticed that it's worse if I haven't been drinking as much water. I will say that maybe things are stretching a bit more because it's been two days and I haven't had one of those episodes. Very happy about that! Thanks for all of your help!
