laundry soap

I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck with homemade laundry soap.  Is it safe for HE machines?  Also, can you wash the cloth diapers in it?   Do you prefer the liquid or powder version?  Any good websites?

Re: laundry soap

  • I've been using 1:1 baking soda and ground soap nuts.  It's been working pretty good.  I put about 2 tbsp full in my top loader.  It should be fine for cloth diapers, but I use Tiny Bubbles for my cloth.  Just 'cause I know it works and I ordered it in bulk from Costco.

  • I use:

    1 cup borax

    1 cup washing soda

1 bar fels naptha finely grated (I actually use about 3/4 of a bar)

I use my food processor to grate the fels naptha and then pulse all three together a few times.

I have a HE top loader and use about 1 tbl per load, a little more if it's a large/heavily soiled one.

It is NOT safe for cloth diapers since it has soap in it.
