Side sleeping

Anyone have a side sleeper? My DD took it up 3 nights ago and it freaks me out!

She isn't quite rolling over, but close and she sleeps in a sleep sack. Is this side sleeping safe?

I don't like it! I'm so scared she will roll on her face and won't be able to roll back.

Re: Side sleeping

  • DD was a side sleeper since just about birth (I would put her on her back, but somehow she'd always to manage to roll onto her side), and then became a full belly sleeper at 4 weeks. We actually never had any problems, and it helped her nurse without fully waking up at night.

  • DS likes to side sleep, but he has always been swaddled or in a sleep sack with arms out so it would be pretty difficult for him to roll onto his belly accidentally.

  • Yup, I have a side sleeper as well. Since he was tiny he's liked sleeping that way. We bedshare half the night and we both sleep on our sides, facing each other most of the time. I love the snuggles and it makes it really easy to nurse him so neither of us really has to fully wake up.

  • my son has been side sleeping for over 6 weeks now and recently started rolling onto his belly in his sleep. dr said it was fine if he rolled onto his side/belly, but we should always put him down on his back. He said there was no reason to roll him back to his back if he was rolling on his own and contentl. and he tells us loud and clear if he is unhappy on his belly!
  • DS is usually a back sleeper. Right now we are visiting my brother and sil who have a 3 month old who is still using a bassinet so they offered DS her crib while we're here. He's been sleeping on his side in the crib every night.....he usually sleeps in a pack n play so maybe the softness of the crib mattress is the reason? Not sure but he sleeps like a log in it!
