Whooping Cough

My nephew, 16, had/has whooping cough. He along with everyone he lives with took the prescribed antibiotics and are no longer supposed to be contagious. We are hosting a birthday party for my stepson on Saturday. Do you think it's okay for them to come?

Nope. It may be unfair to him, but I don't want what could turn into a deadly disease around my newborn when he hasn't been fully vaccinated against it. My three year old cousin died from whopping cough a few years ago, so that hits home for me.

Such a tough call. How long ago did they start antibiotics? Is everyone else vaccinated yet?

I would say no.... whooping cough is very dangerous for infants. It's not just a cold ya know?

The vaccine is not 100 percent so I would say no. Also I believe the cough part lasts a month after becoming infected.

I would call your pedi to see what they say, but personally I wouldn't have them around my baby regardless. I am overly cautious, to say the least. My daughter and I are invited to a baby shower this Saturday, and there is a woman attending with her 3 year old and infant who decided not to vaccinate them, so am not going as I don't want my daughter exposed to unvaccinated people/children yet.

I would personally ask them not to come. It is too risky. Whooping cough is very serious.
