I gave my baby her first 2 oz of cow's milk yesterday mixed with 6 oz breastmilk. She has never had formula, only breastmilk. Well she threw up, couldn't stop sneezing, and broke out in hives. The doctor told us to give her Benadryl and try soy milk. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Re: Milk Allergy?
Yes, that is very similar to the reactions my DS has to dairy (and his other allergies).
Just be aware that some babies who don't tolerate dairy don't tolerate soy either-- so keep an eye out for a reaction to the soy. And you should actually carry an epi pen with you at all times as allergic reactions can turn anaphylactic at any time which is very scary and serious. There is no way to know or predict how bad the next reaction will be. I would make your dr give an epi rx.
My DS is on alimentum instead of milk, as we begin to wean from nursing. We haven't tried soy yet. But the Dietician we saw said soymilk is an inadequate milk substitute before age 2-- it should be soy formula or hypo formula like the ali.
