I wasn't sure if I should post this in 1st or 2nd trimester. I'll be 13 weeks on Thursday...which is one of the reasons I'm so concerned.
On Saturday after I got off of work, I got home and went to the restroom. When I wiped I noted a dark brownish discharge on the tissue. I wiped again and noticed bright red blood. I immediately freaked out and told my husband. He calmed me down and said it was normal and we would keep an eye on it. So I tried to brush it off and took a shower and went to bed.
The next morning I woke up and went to the bathroom and saw the discharge and it was darker like old blood. So I emailed my my midwife and she told me spotting would be normal as long as it wasn't like a period and there were no severe cramping, but I could get a sono to be sure. I have an appointment with her on Wednesday so I told her I would keep an eye on it and we would discuss it then.
Today, I feel like its getting worse. I have had really light cramping, but I've had that on and off since I found out I was pregnant. I'm wearing a panty liner and it hasn't been heavy like a period because it hasn't even stained it. I only see it when I wipe. I emailed my midwife again and we're going to schedule a sono on Wednesday after my appointment with her.
I just want to know what other women have experienced. Am I sitting here bawling for no reason? I always though spotting would happen much earlier. I'm really trying not to be the paranoid first pregnancy lady who's scared of every little pang and pain, but everything has been going to smoothly till know. I just want to know what others have experienced.
I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ruth
Re: New Mommy to be in tears and stressing
Just try not to panic and rest. With my first, I had spotting and even flat out bleeding for the first 16 weeks! He was born healthy as can be and there was nothing wrong with me or the pregnancy. Sometimes it's normal and can be nothing, sometimes there is a reason like your placenta is over your cervix, etc. Just try to wait until your ultrasound without stressing out too much. I know that's hard!
Oh, hun. I am so sorry that you are stressed! Glad you are going in Wednesday though.
Have you had sex recently? There could be irritation of the cervix and some bleeding from that. Brown is older blood, so it's likely just a little bit at a time. FX that you get good news wednesday!
No, I haven't had an ultrasound yet. It was too soon to hear the baby's heart beat at my last appointment. I hate the I have to wait till Wednesday. I'm so worried.
I'm sorry you have to go through this worry, I know it's scary. I had light cramping like you on and off through the 1st tri and I freaked out when I started having brownish discharge. It went away, and all was fine
. Each pregnancy is different. I'm not an expert so I can't say anything for sure but I know I've read many posts like yours on 1st tri who have even had red blood upon wiping or a decent amount on the liner but not enough to leak and usually it's all good. I think it's fairly common. I think it's all good signs that your cramping is light and the bleeding is light. Women who I know who have had losses have had very severe cramping and bleeding. Try not to worry yourself until you see the doctor. I pray all is fine and that your baby is healthy. Take care!
First, I'm sorry you are going through this. Having any kind of spotting is always scary. But keep in mind that brown spotting can be normal during pregnancy. I had it early on, and now my baby is doing great.
Now, just take a deep breath and try to relax. I know it's easier said than done, but do it for your baby. I recommend cuddling with DH watching your favorite movie or TV show.
I hope everything turns out ok for you and the baby.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I had discharge around that time...probabley 11-12 weeks. Dark older blood, for a bout a couple weeks. Only saw it when I wiped, and once in awhile it would get on my underwear but very light.....and my doctor said it was simply old blood. I also had light cramping as well, but again it was all perfectly normal.
I think calling your doctor is a good idea, and getting a sono will put your mind at ease...but just know other women have gone through it too! you're not alone
This happened with my aunt, and they called it a "threatened miscarriage." They put her on bed rest until the bleeding stopped. As hard as it is, please try to relax and stop stressing, put your feet up and drink plenty of water. Take the next couple days very easy until you see your midwife. It could be nothing, but I'm thinking it's better to take a couple days off and relax, rather than push yourself and stress.
I hope you feel better soon!
