I've seen people talk about buying one of these - does the hospital really not give you anything? They gave me an abdominal binder after surgery to have fibroids removed, so it seems weird that they wouldn't do this after c-sections!
The hospital gave me an abdominal binder after both of my surgeries. It worked totally fine, but I would imagine the commercial ones are going to be softer and more comfortable. The hospital will probably want you in the one they provide, since they are used to getting it on/off, etc. I didn't wear mine past about a week or so PP.

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress. Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage. Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm. 27 days in the NICU. Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely. My tough little cookie.
I was never given one and one of the nurses said that sometimes you're better off without it because if you sweat with it on the moisture is bad for the incision.
The hospital gave me one. I had a lot of complications after my c-section...was in the hospital for over 3 weeks, went home for a few days and then had to go back in for another week(needed laproscopic surgery). The lead dr on my case wanted me wearing it all the time especially since I had a 3 year old at home. We told him it was my big bandaid.

I was given one and they had me put a maxi pad over my incision when wearing it to help with any moisture issues.

No, the hospital does not automatically give you one. Your OB has to order one for you. A lot of OB's don't like them.
I never had one for my first 3 c-sections. This time my OB (different than the last OB) ordered me one. I never wore it.......

I received one at the hospital and then got a smaller one once I got home and the hospital one was too big. I liked it and still wear it, I felt like it held me together and made me more confident about moving around.

This site is the first I've heard of them.
