The post below got me thinking. I can get my LO to do well at home, she always tests the limits, but she does well. If we go out to eat or something she does great. But oh boy, when we go to the store she wants to reach out and grab everything and to hold everything and throws screaming fits if I won't let her. I made the horrible mistake once of testing out a toy I wasn't planning on buying to see if I would like to get it for her later and she about lost it.
How does your LO do? Where are they well behaved and not? And what do you do about it?
Re: How does your LO behave?
DS is really content while we are out & about. He is a major people-watcher, so as long as there is something/someone for him to look at, he is happy.
At home, where there aren't many distractions; I get tantrums.

I would say he's pretty good but VERY active. If I go into a store with him, I am prepared for it to take a while and I like him walk around a good bit. It's during the day usually in the morning so not very crowded. When he starts messing with things, we move on to another section but mostly he's content just to be down.
We got out to eat a good bit, usually once or twice a week, and he does okay but it needs to be pretty quick. We try and request a booth and let him climb and play until the food comes (he goes nuts the second you put him in a highchair wanting food). He eats and is a happy camper.
At home is a different story.. he gets into a lot of things but it's nothing dangerous or really destructive so I let him.
We are always in the same room so I make sure to keep an eye on him just to make sure he doesn't get into something serious.
My DD is a very good girl, but she needs constant attention. She's pretty content when we're out and about, but if I'm looking for something in the store or stop for too long, she starts yelling. She doesn't scream or cry, she just yells really loudly. When she gets tired or is ready to get out, then it's game over and she has a fit. Thankfully that doesn't happen too often. When we're out at dinner, she's usually really good if there is enough food to occupy her. Church is hit or miss. Some days she's really busy reading a book or chewing on a toy and other days she's yelling so much I have to take her out. I would say that overall she is very well behaved.
my read shelf:
This. (Except at home I don't get tantrums, I get lots of whining....OMG....I never knew a baby would whine so much. Crying, I expected, but no....DD whines.)
DD loves being out. In fact, every time we go to Target (or some where with a toy section) I take her over there and "play" with the toys with her (show her the stuffed animals, push the buttons of the toys that you can demo while in the box....my favorite is the sneezing Ernie!) and she loves it. She's never gotten upset when I put a toy back.
I never even thought that would happen, but now that you say that I should be prepared for it to happen one day! Ha!
She usually does well when we are out to eat too - again, she likes watching stuff and she likes eating. So as long as she can watch stuff and/or eat things, she's usually great.
The only time I get fuss when we are out is if she's tired. And then I usually just keep pushing the stroller/shopping cart, hurry and finish the trip and she does okay.
DD is pretty happy when we're out and about, her newest favorite thing is trying to turn around and stand up in the cart seat... that's when I forgo the seat thing, that straps her in tight and she can't twist at all!
In the mall, zoo, etc. she does wonderful in either her stroller or carrier but in that she has started to grab at things especially in clothing stores. She listens pretty well when I say no but when I'm just standing there looking at things I can't blame her for being so super intrigued and grabby at all the pretty colors lol.
She used to be wonderful in restaurants but lately she has been doing the testing her limits deal, throwing things and I'm-going-to-drive-you-nuts-screaming lol so that's been hard. We can't let her have toys at the tables anymore, only snacks and normally one of us has to have a hand on the plate while she's eating or she'll grab it and throw it once it's empty
9I have to get soe of those grippy non-slip mats.
In the store (grocery store or malls) as long as we keep moving he is very well behaved. (As long as he's not tired) If I know he's going to be sleepy then I just put him in the wrap and wear him while I shop. If he's in the stroller (like at the mall, zoo, etc), I just lay the stroller back, hand him a bottle with his lovey and blanket and he falls asleep.
Eating out is a hit or miss. If the food takes too long he gets very impatient about being in the high chair. He would prefer someone's lap to the chair most of the time so we let him do that until the food comes and then he has to sit. He's walking now so he thinks he should be able to get down and explore while we eat...and obviously that is not an option. I pack an arsenal of favorite snacks, toys and book to try and keep him occupied. If all else fails I pull out my phone and let him watch videos of himself...that usually buys us enough time to finish eating and chat with the other people we are out with.
He's overall pretty well behaved so I can't complain to much. The at home baby I get is way different though!
Actually, I want to amend this.... She's good when we are out if I keep her moving fairly often. If I stop to compare stuff she's fine but she'll let me know if she's getting antsy and wants the stroller/cart to be moving again.
She is NOT very tolerant when I go clothes shopping. I hate clothes shopping and I'm pretty slow at it. When I took DD once or twice, there was a lot of whining so I try to avoid shopping that requires a lot of browsing/trying things on.
Target, grocery store, Costco - places where I usually have a list but still do some browsing (like the pile of baby clothes that caught my attention at Costco today?) - she does fine.
Browsing at the mall or some other store? Limited patience for that.
