I can't stand parents that are so ignorant to their own stupidity. I have seen at least a dozen pictures on Facebook that make me want to strangle someone. They are all pictures of these itty bitty babies forward facing in their carseats. Well ... by itty bitty I mean somewhere between 8-10 months. Nowhere near old enough to be forward faciing. I so badly want to say something but I don't want to come off as an 'I'm better than you' kinda mom. I've tried to post PSAs about carseat safety hoping that they'd get the hint but no dice. I still have plenty of pictures flooding my wall with captions like, "Oh look at my big man!!". Smh.
Yes, I know I could just not go on Facebook or delete these people. I have hidden a couple of these girls just because I can't take it anymore. Ugh.
There was another girl who just today posted about how she's been using rum to help her baby with teething. Now, I'm trying not to judge. Not my kid, not my place. But why put something like that on Facebook?
It's just SO frustrating. These poor babies. ![]()
Okay. Rant over.
Re: Ughhh .. People drive me crazy. (Vent/Rant.)
I nicely messaged somebody with a 9 month old (At the time) about how rear-facing was really the safest way, and that technically it's illegal (where we are located) to turn him forward before a year. I included some links so she could decide on her own.
She replied with how he's so big, and almost a year old, and the seat says he can be forward facing after 20 lbs. Then she blocked me.

A lot of people think if their kid is over the 20 lb limit they can forward face, but they fail to realise that even if your kid is heavy their neck muscles may not be developed enough to withstand the impact of a crash.
I don't understand the appeal of having a forward-facing kid anyway. What is the big rush? I would keep A facing backward til he is 18 if it was safer. Geez!
My issue is with the moms who post pictures of their baby stuffed into a crib that is loaded with blankets and pillows and bumpers. I wonder if they did not get the same quality of maternity care that I did, because I was informed as to why that is dangerous...I just don't get it.
I have to disagree and say it is stupid, and it is against the law. I also think keeping your child rear facing until one minimum is common parenting sense.
I find a lot of the people that rear face before their child is 1 know they shouldn't be doing it but think 'what's the harm?' as long as their child is heavier, taller, or it's only 'a few months early'. They really push this information on you, every visit they remind me that she cannot forward face, at the hospital they go over this information with you again and again, they put it on the carseat not to do it. I think it would be hard for someone to claim ignorance on this one.
I know now they are saying to RF longer than 1, but the law in most places is 1 minimum, and knowingly breaking a law is not the smartest thing. Not only do you chance getting ticketed, you also put your baby in danger for serious injury and maybe even death.
I can see how you can claim one doesn't realize the importance if you are talking of someone who is front facing a child 12-24 months. But I believe it truly is ignorance (thus stupidity) to front face before 1 year. Had the user read their car seat manual or been educated on the law they would not have forward faced. Therefore, lack of doing so is, in fact, stupid.
Purposely not educating yourself on how to use a safety device with your baby is stupid. And they most likely do know and choose to FF anyways, and that just makes it stupider.
There is no excuse for FF a 8 month old.
To sort of spin off of the OP... Today I had to deal with a busybody parent volunteer at DD's school. DD had a case of the Monday's and missed the bus so I had to drive her to school. She sits on the driver's side, DS is on the passenger because that's where his carseat fits properly (have to have the front seat pulled ahead for it to fit). DD got out of the car and as such we were reinforcing "we aren't ever going to do this (behaviors) again in the mornings, luv you, have a good day at school" as she shut the door and was running around the back of the car.. This gal came around to my side of the car as I was getting ready to shift into gear and pull out, OPENED MY CAR DOOR and in her snarky busybody tone said "if possible we prefer kids get out on the other side of the car because it's safer for them" ... I snarked back "Well, it isn't possible for her to get out of the car on the other side, (duh) baby carseat!" to which the snot had to look back there herself to see the base there along with my emergency gear bag on the floor.
Yea, I'm really going to have DD, who has all the coordination of a fly hitting the glass, climb over the top of DS's base/seat to get out on the other side of the car and go head first out the other side.. Sure... uhHUH!
Some people drive me crazy!
I would be so upset! Someone just opening my car door would freak me out too, you just don't do that. Knock on the glass or something.
I'm sure it's probably safer if she gets out on the sidewalk side, but you do what you can do.
