Congratulations on your son's penis...

Anyone else get this? "Oh, you had a boy? Congratulations! Good job! Oh, you gave your boyfriend his boy, huh? A son...that's excellent!"

What would they say if I had had a girl? "Oh....congratulations..."

Such archaic thinking. I guess, for his sake, it's a good thing he's a boy or I would've been shunned from the kingdom.

I should add that I get this the most from old people at work.

Re: Congratulations on your son's penis...

  • My baby's dad already has an older son and I hear, "Oh, good thing he already has his boy!" Um, what? Is that supposed to be a compliment?

  • People always act surprised when I say my husband wanted a girl. They expected him to be upset or something because we weren't having a boy.

I hate when people tell DH, maybe next time you'll get a boy. What's wrong with a girl. That does drive me nuts! Although, I did think this was going along the lines of your doctor said that. Because I was with my nephew and the pedi said, "Congrats on your son's penis. It's huge." Rather uncomfortable moment for the AUnt, needless to say.

  • "Great! A boy for your husband." Ummm I was secretly hoping for a boy because I was a brat... Yeah I'll admit it.

"So awesome you're having a boy first. He can protect a younger sister." Umm assuming we have another child and it's a girl.

That's so awkward! How did you keep a straight face?

  • It's funny though. As often as you are likely to find people with that mindset, you will find the opposite. I've had several people feel bad for me because girl clothes are so much more fun. Or they just prefer girls.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

Maybe if you have a girl, she could take care of herself. I have three nieces and they are all going to be tough as nails. The ones that cry more are my two nephews.

  • I agree, so weird. I find it especially disturbing to listen to this conversation among men... it's like if they fathered a son they feel like they've somehow accomplished something, or they're all apologetic sometimes when they hear their buddy has a daughter. Or god forbid, a second or third daughter.

My SO wanted a girl pretty bad. He picked out all these girl names for me to look at, talked about things he'd do with our daughter, blah blah... We obviously had a boy.

It also gets on my nerves when people say he,looks just, like his dad. People always say that.. yet if you put a baby picture of me next to him it looks the same.
