It gives you the shitts and on rare occasions, the contracting of your guts caused by dehydration will put you into labor. Mostly just the shitts though and a good chance for a trip to the ER for that dehydration.
There are several posts about this from late last week, but to sum up,
All it does is dehydrate you, give you the runs, and make you super crampy. Babies come when they're ready. If you want to try to encourage it along, walk, eat spicy foods, have sex, try EPO, etc. But castor oil is just bad news.

And also, a very overdramatic *yawn* to the bajillionth repeat post on the matter.
I used it last time, a doula recommended it, and it did work, but I did have diarrhea. It wasn't horrible, and I wasn't dehydrated I kept drinking water like crazy but I don't think I'd do it again unless I was facing pitocin and nothing else worked.

This was the one thing my Midwife specifically asked me NOT to do. She said it was because it will give you the runs (which is not fun, but oh well) the problem is that it can cause baby to have a bowl movement in utero which can happen but you don't want to encourage it. This can cause lung problems if they inhale it, so they warned against it.

I never heard this before, not worth the risk then!
