Toddler clothing question

E has outgrown all his 18 month clothing, but 24 month pants are so big around his waist they fall right off. I have very little sewing skills to speak of, but I'm wondering if there is an easy fix to cinch his waist a little bit.

Any ideas? So far all I can think of is using a safety pin.

    You will need to look for pants with an elastic waist (either tighter elastic or the kind with elastic but has a string) or most pants starting at 24mos have an adjustable waist (look inside the waistband - there will be buttons and a piece of fabric that you pull out that has button holes on it) and you adjust it to the size you need.  You can find this kind of pant most anywhere.

    ....none of his pants have this and he has about 15 pairs right now, all elastic waist. I'd rather not buy more if I don't have to. :(

    Ok, I can do that.  I'll just have to look up how to do it again. It's been a long time since I sewed clothing other than sticking a button back on.

    Honestly I would go buy 5 pairs of adjustable waist pants and call it a day. I got 5 pairs of jeans from CP the other day for under $50.

    This is what I do with all of DD's pants.  Then they can easily be let out when necessary.

    I can think of 4 solutions

    1 - take them in at the waist - personally, I think it is a waste of time, since they will fit eventually

    2 - buy a few pairs with adjustable elastic in them and wait to grow into the rest- I learned with DD, and now I won't buy anything but adjustable waist pants

    3 -  Belt

    4 - Dapper Snapper

    www.dappersnappers.com. This is what I bought for my skinny minnie to keep her pants up. Of course it only works with pants that have belt loops. But the great thing is that unlike a belt it doesn't interfere with taking the pants up and down, which is very helpful during potty training.

    I also look for the pants that have the adjustable waists inside. Almost all the pants from The Childrens Place and Old Navy come with adjustable waist inside.
