My husbands friend is getting married there in November and myself and DH were thinking about going down for 4 nights. I haven't been there in over 5 years and the last trip was a total booze fest so I can't really compare it.Oh, and I will be around 24-25 weeks at the time.
Should it be a safe place to go if I just drink bottled water and stay away from the fruit and veggies? Or would a cruise to the Bahamas be a safer bet?
Thanks everyone for any input!
Re: Is Mayan Riveria, Mexico safe for a babymoon?
Any of the major hotels would be safe enough. I would go put it that way, and yes as long as you are aware of ice, water etc.. you should be just fine.
If you do decide to go on a cruise make sure you are within the weeks! You have to be 24 weeks or less at time of disembarkation to go on a cruise and prior to travel provide them with a Dr note proving that. Just FYI
I think some cruise lines will not let you cruise past a certain number of weeks, not sure what it is though.
I think it depends on where you're staying. We went there for our honeymoon and had a great time. I would obviously drink a lot of bottled water. I didn't restrict what food I ate at all and hubby and I both were fine.

Yeah if we do a cruise we are going to go when I am 22-23 weeks... I think you have to be less than 24 weeks when the cruise is over.
I was just thinking it would be nice to have some people around that we knew at the resort just in case I wanted to sneak off to the spa and have some alone time I wouldn't have the husband complaining how bored he was or for me to get out of bed. lol.

Totally fine!!! Drink bottle water, don't drink the water in the hotel, and don't eat cabbage while you're there. I was a missionary kid to Mexico and was there for 7 years; not ONCE did anyone (we took youth groups on missions trips during the summers) get sick due to food/water related issues (yes, we had a few pregnant women come, too!)
Make sure you know where the closest hospital is. I know a lot of people worry about the care of hospitals, but especially along the most touristy spots, they tend to cater to them there. A few times people on the trips have to go to the ER, and they were always taken care of VERY well, cheap, and haven't had any issues due to the treatment (one kid had to have 3 stitches in his head; he was given plastic surgery stitches, has no scar, and all that with the head scans was $25!) Staying in a resort is extra great, because they'll already have that contact information for you.
Anyway, I say go and have FUN!!!
I agree with PP's about the bottled water (obviously), but I might still bring it up to your doctor just in case there is something random going on there that we might not be hip to. The only reason I say to do so is because I was speaking with my doctor about traveling and she asked where I was headed. I said, "Colorado," and she said, "Ok, if it were Mexico or something, it would be a different story..." I only remember her mentioning the bottled water and can't recall anything else she said since I wasn't going to Mexico!
Just a thought. I'm sure if you use common sense and don't drink/eat anything sketchy, you should be okay, but I'm a "better safe than sorry" kind of person!
Isn't there a huge outbreak of swine flu in Mexico right now?
I'm sure drinking bottled water would be fine and most resorts only serve food that is safe for the average tourist. I would worry too much about the food.
I'd definitely talk to your OB about traveling there beforehand though.
We were down in that area back in April and LOVED it. Our resort had filtered water and bottled water and the food was awesome. There were a lot of pregnant gals down there at the same time we were too.
I'm sure not all of them are the same, but our resort also had it's own on-site clinic.
