Right now on my registry I have a moby wrap and an ergo. Do I need both or should I take off the Moby? The Moby is almost $50 so if it's something I will only use for a month or two I will probably just take it off my registry.
I bought a moby for my first and hated it. Too much fabric, and was hot during the warm months. Took too long to put it on. That being said, a lot of moms love it! My advice to you, try it on before you get it to make sure it's something you'd actually want to use! I bought it because of all the rave reviews on this board years ago and just didn't like it. I ended up buying a sling for this baby and LOVE it and use it all the time when we go out, it just fit me and my lifestyle MUCH better!
I have an Ergo and LOVE it- we started using it around 6 weeks, which was a bit early, and used it all the way until DS was able to walk steadily on his own. It was great to use when we didn't want to or weren't able to use a stroller (crowded stores, airport, hiking, etc.). DS also liked to be held vs. riding in a stroller, and this was much easier on me than just carrying him.
I would look into different slings/wraps and see if you can try on any in the store to see what would work for you for the 1st month or two- I recommend something very easy to get into/out of.
You could skip the Moby and get the Ergo infant insert (although, its probably a similar price) and then you can use the Ergo now when the baby is tiny.
I had an Ergo Sport and a K'Tan Breeze wrap. I used the K'Tan for hours everyday for the first 3 months - it was the only place she'd nap if not in the stroller or carseat. I found the K'Tan way less complicated than the Moby - similar price point, if I remember. I recommend it to everyone.
I did not buy the infant insert for my Ergo b/c she was born in July and would have been WAY too hot in that wooly insert. The KTan Breeze was mesh, and slightly cooler considering I had a baby hotbox pressed against my chest for hours!
Once I went back to work FT at 3 months, that was pretty much the end of my KTan days. I rarely used the Ergo.

I was thinking the same thing, I got the Ergo and the infant insert plus the seven sling (I did the freebie with shipping).
I was at at boutique baby shop this weekend and the saleslady told me that the Ergo doesnt support baby facing outward, just inward and on back and I should get a Moby for the 8 - 24 mo period where they may want to face out.
I looked on craigslist for a Moby and found a new one for $20, I think im going to grab it.
Different people like different carriers, so take everyone's suggestions with a grain of salt. I would highly recommend both a moby/k'tan (for early months) AND an ergo (for later on), but not the infant insert. My favorite carrier right now is a ring sling, which is perfect for a newbie, as well as for older babies, and is super quick to put on and take off. Best place to find what will work for you is a local baby wearing group - they'll likely have a ton of different carriers, will be able to help you try them on and get the right sizes, and can provide you with advice on which brands are better for you.

I have 2 moby wraps, one vatanai wrap, one jelly bean sling, one hot sling, one infant mei tai and a stroller. I use them all. I have a carrier problem. I liked to have options and I liked having different colors. I used my moby an mei tai the mos at first. The mei tai I could do back carries in so it lasted me a long time. The slings were good for just hip carries at the grocery store or when she wanted up down up down and my Vatanai woven wrap is what I used the most and longest. I can still wrap her in it on my back and she is 2 1/2. I love options... So I would say keep both on your registry.

This. We had the k'tan for when dd was really little, but it got annoying when she was a bit bigger. We have the Beco Butterfly now and LOVE it. No infant insert needed.
But yeah - there's no way I would have bothered with the Moby - the K'tan is like the Moby but way easier to use IMO.
