Buying used car seat bases (Britax B Safe)

I know buying a used car seat isn't recommended but what about buying used bases? On my local classifieds someone is selling 2 britax b safe bases for $100 for both.

    Not recommended.
    The base is secured to the vehicle and holds the infant seat. If the base was damaged in any way it might not function properly in a crash.

    No. The base is considered part of the car seat. I would never buy either used since you never know if it has been involved in a crash, making it unsafe to use.

    That's not much of a bargain. A base is about 70 to 80 dollars. Do you really want to comprise your baby's safety to save 20 or 30 dollars?

    They're $100 here. But still not a great idea. OP, why do you need that many bases (you would have 3 total)? If I'm assuming correctly from your screen name, you're in Canada, probably on a one year mat leave? How often will you really be switching cars? If you are on leave and going back to work after the year, you won't need the base (you're better off getting a convertible for a second car at that point). Also, the base is extremely quick to reinstall, and the car seat can be used without the base. Personally, I'd save the money and put it towards a new convertible in a few months.

    We'd be switching between our vehicles a lot because once summer hits we go camping and need to use DH's truck to pull our trailer, but during the week I'd need the base in my vehicle because DH takes his truck to work. I just thought I heard installing car seat bases is a PIAS so I thought if we had at least 2 that would work. The 3rd one would be for my parents or DH's parents' vehicle because I assume they'll be needing one as well.

    Doesn't matter now though lol because the lady never replied to my inquiry!
