2nd Trimester

Anyone congested every morning?

A little gross but I wake up every morning and have a ton of mucus in my throat.  I can usually cough it out and it feels better, but it never seems to improve.  Is this pregnancy related or just the lovely allergies I acquired after having DS?  Either way it's awful!

Re: Anyone congested every morning?

  • Thats me :-) I feel like I wake up with a cold every morning...

Its just the increase blood flow clogging up the thin membranes in the nose and throat. My dr. suggested taking a benydryl if its too bothersome to help...

    Good luck!

  • I feel like @ss for the first half hour or so of every day. Totally normal. :)
It was a rough road, but Arlo Daniel was born April 1, 2013—and our second rainbow is due October 12, 2014.
  • My 15 week update email said congestion is normal during pregnancy due to the hormones of course. Blame everything on the hormones :)

  • I wake up every morning and sneeze at least 3 times and generally have a stuffy nose. You aren't alone.

  • Have you ever used a neti pot?  This helps me big time.  It cleans out my sinuses and helps to dry them out enough to prevent morning ewww.  I like the stand up 8oz bottle.

  • Yes! This is me, every morning. It's pretty normal from what I've read - I also use a sinus rinse (like a neti) - give it  a go (but make sure you boil the water to kill any bacteria)
  • Yes, stuffy nose and sore throat.  I was thinking i was coming down with something....
  • With DD, I had a constant stuffy nose.  With this pregnancy, I have nonstop chest congestion accompanied by a cough.  I've got a lovely sexy hoarse voice now.  i think my asthma has gotten worse with this pregnancy.  Everyone keeps asking if I'm sick or have a cold.  It sucks!

  • Yup. Always sniffly when I wake up, and my nose is dry and I'm starting to get nosebleeds. Fun.

  • I have issues with my sinuses every single day, so my membranes are out of control in that area. Tried the neti pot and it plugged me up even more! From what I've read, my (and it sounds like yours also) issue is hormone related.

  • The first thing I do when I wake up every morning is sneeze. And sneeze again. And again. Literally like 100 times, every morning.

  • Oh man, me too!
Actually one of the first things that hit me about being pregnant was within one-two weeks after conceiving I developed a very stuffy nose... every morning! It hasn't went away since but I thought it was odd that I had it going on for nearly two weeks before I even knew I was pregnant. I blamed ALL of my early pregnancy symptoms on the fact that I had moved about one week before I got pregnant. All the stuffiness, having to pee all the time, tons of nightmares, sleeping for crap... it was all the new house, I thought. Turns out it was all the new hormones. : )

Needless to say I am stuffy, congested, sneezy, dry, irritated and also finding blood on the kleenex when I blow my nose... EWW. My guy and I are going to implement a humidifier and see if that helps.
