'Real' toothpaste - teaching them to spit?

in Toddlers: 24 Months+

DD will be 2 next week and we're still using the 'training' toothpaste, wanted to switch her to regular but she doesn't get the whole spitting thing. How did you teach your LO w/ out them thinking it was just funny, lol. :) Or do you even worry about it?

    I started using fluoride toothpaste at 2 1/2 and dd got the spitting immediately... Ds was not spitting regularly until after age 3... So I just tried to use very little toothpaste and ncouraged him to spit every time even tho he didn't for a long time. GL it will come eventually even if not at first.

    We are still using the training toothpaste and have just started teaching her to rinse and spit. She can drink from an open cup, so we have her drink a little water and remind her to swish it in her mouth, then spit. She loves it and I think we'll be ready to switch to regular toothpaste soon.

    We switched to real toothpaste at 3 yrs old after her first dentist trip.  She didn't know how to spit and it take about a month or so to get that.  I might wait to switch, because they really need to spit it out.  Teaching them how?  I just showed her how to spit and she finally figured it out on her own.

    We switched to real toothpaste at 3 as well. DD wouldn't spit regularly enough for me to do it sooner. Now she knows it's not good if she swallows and can understand better.
