For those of you who have already had showers...what percentage of your guests bought off of your registry? Just curious. I have my first one in two weeks and hardly anything has been purchased.
Little Man (4 years old---holy cow) He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be. He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
My shower is today (I know really late). And according to my registry only to things have been purchased there are about 30 people invited. I had a similar thing with my wedding. My family and friends are just not registry people I guess. It's not a big deal I made it more for a shopping list for my self and to get the coupons. I just hope I don't get to many of one thing.

Thanks. For my wedding I would say about 60% did buy off the registry so I am sort of surprised. My family is not great with this but usually friends are. Have a great time today...enjoy.

Baby showers =/= weddings. Both in the sense that most people wait until THE last possible second to shop and in the sense that people are more likely to buy a new family what worked for them, vs what they ask for.
For example, I had a friend register for pacifier wipes and paci sanitizers and all kinds of other not necessary things (yes, not necessary in my opinion, but as a giver, I have the right to spend my money the way I want). I sure as hell didn't buy them because I think they are stupid. Now, she happened to have other things that I know she'd actually need and use, so I bought those, but if she didn't, I would have likely bought something I had experience with or gotten her something she can use after the baby comes (a maid visit, gift certificates to the local delivery place, spa gift cards, etc).

I would say 50% bought from the registry. My problem was even the people who used the registry could not figure out how to have the items taken off the registry. Thankfully I had a very small baby shower, 9 people, and no duplicates.
None, but mine was over 15 years ago. I don't know if being able to access the Internet would have changed that. Most of the guest were people I didn't know, and older, so that might have had something to do with it. Fwiw, they all lived within ten minutes of the store, I just don't think registries were their thing. I got mostly receiving blankets and toiletries, which kept ds in baby shampoo until he was five. It was interesting, but sweet to say the least.
According to my online registry 0. In reality, probably 6 of 40 people between the 2 showers I had. They either bought things I wanted by coincidence, or didn't tell the cashier it was from a registry to cross it off. I also agree that many people buy things last minute.
The rest of the gifts were things they found were cute, handmade, or things mothers found practical with their kids. Shopping for babies is fun so I find a lot of people don't really follow the registry (guilty of thismyself).
About 50%, but all purchases were made in the days before the shower, not 2 weeks in advance. Some were even purchased the day of the shower. I try not to registry stalk, but I checked it before and after my shower and there was a big difference.
Overall, about 75% of the items on my registry have been purchased. Although, I have not received anything that I would call a useless gift. And very little clothes and diapers. I just got a bunch of stuff other moms thought I would like or could use.

My IVF Journey
All except my stroller came from my registry. I did not ask for the stroller I received but I love it. I just thought it was too expensive to register for but the 2 people that got it for me really wanted to.
The only thing not on my registry was gift cards or cash (both of which I did not register for). I think it's kinda rude to not use the registry, all my friends and family feel the same. It's there for a reason, use it.

It's rude to not be gracious for each gift you receive. Registries are simply lists of suggestions. No one's required to use them.
99. The only items I got not on the registry were 2 keepsake items. My family and friends always stick to the registry. I've been to other showers though of friends where no one purchased off the registry but me! and just bought whatever.
Just my two cents. I personally never used to shop from the registry. It was a little overwhelming and I couldn't be bothered. For the past few weddings/ baby showes I have. I thought about whether my nonregistry items were used or not. After I came to this realization, I decided to use the registries. Also, after my own wedding, I realized how time consuming it is to register. For my bridal shower, many items were purchased within two weeks of the shower. I am going to expectthe same for my baby shower.

sounds like someone only got a bunch of clothes off their registry that won't get used. Why would I get someone a gift that I'm not sure would get used. That's a waste in my opinion. When you buy from the registry you know that its something that is wanted and will get used. Choosing off the registry and buying what YOU like may never get used , will get re-gifted, returned or thrown away- that's the truth. I want to make sure who I'm buying a gift for likes what I got and needs it. Otherwise I might as well throw my money away. And yes, everyone I know feels the same way and That's how it should be. Flame away!
100 percent....for a shower that had about 50 women.
We were Team Green. It was all baby gear. Didn't get any clothes from people until after baby was born....when people came to the hospital, a lot brought an outfit or two that they picked out.

I was fortunate enough to have two showers and received both items that were on my registry and ones that weren't. I appreciated every single one of them the same. My favorite gifts turned out to be those that weren't on the registry such as the quilt DH's great grandmother made or the basket of baby care items my step sister gave me based off of what worked well for her children.
You can't put restrictions on how others give you gifts and you can't tell others how to spend their money. While you may think it's a waste to stray from the registry, others might think they're being helpful by purchasing an item that worked for them. Neither is wrong or rude.
Also, just because "everyone you know" feels the same and you say "that's how it should be" doesn't make it right. It does make you and your friends look ungrateful as you don't seem to know the meaning of a gift.
My sister in law got so many duplicates at her shower. I think, that although people purchase gifts on the registry, they may not go "through the registry" or may not notify the registry store if they purchased the item from another store so the item still shows as 'needed.' Be prepared to have to do exchanges and remember some people make a gift or come up with a great gift idea you never thought of. Remember those unexpected gifts are usually the best!

I was lucky and most of my items were purchased, I guess I would say between 80-90%. Mostly everyone bought off the registry in addition to non-registry gifts. Then again my parents went crazy and bought DS pretty much every big ticket item on there so they were the majority gift givers. Like most people said usually people shop last minute.

I agree with this but from what I have heard around these boards getting a lot of stuff off of your registries for a baby shower seems to be rare.
The only non-registry items I received were clothes, which I didn't add at all to my registry beyond some basic onesies, handmade blankets and such were are amazing, the bouncer were different (worked out fine), and some small items I didn't think/know to register for but turned out to be incredibly useful.
But our registry was pretty much depleted by the time DD arrived.
The only people who bought off my registry were those who told me what they were buying before hand - eg - my grandma ALWAYS buys the diaper bag, Aunt Pat ALWAYS buys the baby monitor, etc...

Hahahaha!
At my Boston shower, I think 1 person bought off the registry.
At my local (SC) shower, everyone bought something off of it.
~90%
