Convertible car seat recommendations?

DS has outgrown his baby carseat and we now need to go up to a convertible. What do folks recommend? He hates his current one - Chicco keyfit. I'm really hoping he'll like this next one...

TIA!

  • This is a list of carseats that are recommended by car seat technicians! There are many convertible options to choose from!

  • We have a Britax Boulevard as our main seat and I like it.  We have a Cosco Scenera in DH's car.  I like it also but it definitely doesn't feel as substantial as the Britax.  Also, at 18 months, DS has almost reached the RF limit in the Cosco seat.  We had no reason to think we'd have a big kid - we're both pretty average/small.

  • Just started using our Britax Marathon 2 weeks ago - love it.  It was a little pricey, but if you like Britax, buy online - almost always cheaper than in the stores.  Very easy to install.  However, I should mention that when we had our infant seat inspected by our local police department, the officer was quick to mention that any convertible seat is just fine - they all have to meet the same standards.  You just pay more for more padding, extra bells and whistles, etc.  So, yup, I bought into the Britax hype, but I still think any seat in your price range is great according to our local police dept.
  • Love my Britax seats.  Super easy install.  I always see them cheap on Amazon.

  • I also have a Britax, a marathon. I do really like it, very easy to install. The daily use is also easy. The straps don't twist and the buckles are easily undone. I paid about $215 for mine.

I also have a Evenflo Triumph Advanced for DH's car. This car seat was harder to install. I did take it to the fire department to have it checked and it wasn't installed correctly. Also, the straps are a little more difficult to loosen/tighten. The chest clip is also hard to move up and down. I also don't like the way the straps adjust the shoulder height. I paid about $105.

With that being said I don't mind having the Triumph because its only used a couple time on the weekends. For my daily use carseat I'm glad I spent a little more and got one that is super user friendly. But if you are on a tight budget all carseats go through safety testing.

  • We really like our Evenflo Symphony 65 e3.  It was an incredibly easy install that took all of 2 minutes.  I like that you don't have to retread the harness straps when they need t be adjusted for height.  It has a decently high shell so that it shouldn't be outgrown extremely early.  It is $200 but we got it during the BRU trade in event and ended up paying $160.  We've been extremely happy with it and DS looks so comfortable.
  • If we had a bump vote on this, I am pretty sure the britax boulevard would win. We love our evenflo triumph though and it was so much cheaper but I feel it is a good, safe seat.

    Hope that helps!

  • Depends on what car you drive and if you expect to erf or have. Tall/average, etc lo. We have a radian for dd4, Britax convertibles wouldnt work for her, the shell is too short and the top harness height just isn't enough. We also didn't have the Clek Foonf (which still hasn't hit the shelves yet) and the Graco Size4Me isn't available here. Next to those for longevity, I'd go for the Graco MyRide or Evenflo  Symphony 65.

  • We got the Maxi Cosi Pria because we weren't going to do a separate infant seat and we liked the features of the tiny-seat. We obviously haven't used it yet, but it has great reviews and seems like a great seat. I also love the fabric, it seems like it will breathe nicely and clean up well.

  • Are you and your husband tall?  Our DD is going to outgrow her Britax Boulevard around age 2 at the rate she's growing. She's 20 months now and we have the shoulder harness straps in the highest position already.  If she makes it to 2 in this seat we will likely buy a Britax Frontier for her next.  If she outgrows it before 2, we'll be looking at the Radian.  On the other hand, my nephew is over 4 and still sits safely in a Britax Marathon.  My brother and his ex are quite short though.

  • Love our Britax seats. DD is about to outgrow the Roundabout we have in DH's car and we will move her up to the Frontier soon. She still fits great in her Marathon. She is an average kid and has been in these seats since 7 months so they are well worth the money and super easy to install.

  • We have a Boulevard and absolutely love it.  DD is a shortie so we don't have to worry about her outgrowing it anytime soon.  It was insanely easy to instal and adjust.  The clips and buckle are super easy, especially versus her infant seat.  We have her infant seat in my H's car, but I wouldn't hesitate to spend the money on another Britax when we get a convertable for the other car.

DS has been in his Britax Roundabout since 5ish months old and he loves it.  We went with that because we have extremely small backseats and my husband is really tall.  I know people say the shell is short but DS is consistently in the 90th % or higher for height and he's nowhere near outgrowing it.

You probably have the 50 or 55. A lot of people still refer to the original Roundabout 40, which was SUPER short. :)
