Parenting after a Loss

Recommend your bottles

I have a bunch of Playtex bottles but they are the type you drop these plastic liners in. I hated having to buy them often and then throw out the liners (they are recyclable but still...it is just more waste). I inherited the bottles from SIL when I had DS, so I never really researched what bottles were good.

I will be EBFing but when I go back to work, I will be pumping so DH or daycare will use the bottles.  I want something that does not have many parts, is easy to clean, and does not require a sterilizing machine, I can just boil the nipples in a pot of hot water.  I definitely don't want something that requires me to go out and buy more supplies like the Playtex drop-in liners.

Any recs? Tell me why you like your bottles.

  • We have Dr. Brown's and Similac Sensitive. I prefer the Browns, DH prefers the Similac. DS eats out of both just fine.

  • We use the new Similac Simply Smart bottles and we love them.

I think they are very easy to clean, they don't leak, and when I was BFing in the beginning and had to transition to pumping and formula DS had no problems adjusting to these bottles.

  • We've used the following: Both types of Avents, the Playtex Ventaires, and Dr. Brown's. DD has issues with spit-up and the Dr. Brown's seem to work the best. We hated the Ventaire's. BUT, all babies are different, and you may need to try a few before you settle on one.

  • Your best bet, buy one bottle of each type and find out what LO likes the best.

Don't stock up on one brand, he may not like it at all.  I was set on tomee tippee he hated them!!  We went through those, Dr. Browns, drop ins, and avent...He didn't like any of them..My ebf had to go FF baby was picky and the only thing he will use is NUK...Who would have guessed.

  • Thanks, ladies. I have a sample of Avent as well so I'll start with that and if it does not work out, I'll probably try the Similac next.

  • We use Dr. Brown's.  I introduced the bottle around 3 weeks and have had no problem going back and forth between bottle and breast.

  • We have born free and while I'm glad DS likes them and we didn't have to go through a bunch of bottles... they are a huge pita to clean.  I've heard people say they had good luck w/ the medela nipples that go right on the pump bottles... I wish I had just gone for something like that first since I'm pumping and it would save me washing bottles.

  • We tried tons and finally figured out we liked Avent the best.  VERY easy to clean, simple parts - and DS liked the wide nipple vs. the skinny nipple.

  • DD would only accept Tommee Tippee until she was 5+ months old.  Now she is fine with the Medela bottles and nipples I got to go with my pump.
