March 2012 Moms

WWYD

We always take a trip in November with the in laws. We all ride together in the same vehicle. I love them and we all get along great. This is our first year taking the trip with them and the LO. We have a GMC Terrain and by the time you add a car seat I just don't think it's possible for everyone to ride comfy for what is normally a 5 hour trip. I asked DH to talk to his parents about taking two vehicles and he flipped out! Am I crazy or would you take two vehicles? TIA!

ETA: I have let it be known I will not be one of the passengers smothered beside a carseat and another person in the backseat.

Re: WWYD

  • That is a long trip to be uncomfortable, and it will be even longer with a baby. Is YH worried there won't be as much visiting time if you take separate cars? You can tell him you'll need to make more frequent stops with LO, so some of the visiting time would be made up there.

  • No he's not worried about visiting time they live 1 mile from us so they visit all the time. I'm think its a "clingy" issue. This will be the first time we actually get our own hotel room!!! DH is an only child and when they go with us they literally are with us everywhere we go.
  • What about renting a van or something along those lines? I understand where you are coming from. That would make for a long trip being nestled up to a car seat. On the seperate car idea, I think it is a good one personally, but if your DH says no, back to the drawing board! Hope you have a fun trip though!

  • I would just give them the option and let them decide if they want to be trapped in a car with a possibly grumpy teething kid and the chance of being upside the head by a rattle.. if they say it's ok.. then take em along.

A lot of grandparents would say thanks but we'll drive lol.

  • I would say sure if they want to sit in the backseat by all means do it. But I would not make myself uncomfortable on that long of a trip. So if you husband still wants them to ride with then I would tell him he has to sit and hug the carseat.
