A baby in my belly and a dog up my arse

A baby in my belly and a dog up my arse-

I don't know if my dog is trying to tell me something, but he has been up my arse for the last week!  He normally is not the cuddly type and usually likes to be by himself (in order to get into trouble, of course) but he suddenly wants to be with me all the time and is constantly trying to get into my lap.  Problem is he's 75lbs of labrador and this is obviously not possible; so he's become content with always laying his huge head on my belly.  Has anyone else's pets been acting funny as your due date approaches (or approached)?  I'm wondering if he knows something is going to happen soon...or if he just figured out I have a perfect built-in pillow that he likes lol!  I'm also curious how he'll act once the LO arrives...hopefully he won't be trying to lay on her during feedings, haha :)

Re: A baby in my belly and a dog up my arse

  • We have 2 labs I know what you mean. Not sure if it a lab thing or just a dog/pet thing in general. We have a yellow lab and a chocolate lab/boxer mix and they both are up mine every step I take. I literally cannot get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom these last couple nights without one if not both of them standing there staring at me.

We did have one of them when DD was born and he was great with her. He did like to snuggle right beside her though when she was laying on the floor. The older she got she would pull on his ears and face and he just loved her up. I hope we have as great of an experience this time around with 2 dogs and the 2 DD's .

Good Luck to you as well and I hope you have a great experience too!!

  • My dog was like this the night my water broke. I think he knew.

  • No advice. But I have a lab mix and she is like this all the time. She watches me while I pee. and while I am in the bathtub. I guess I should be grateful that I truly am the center of another being's universe? It is so weird...

  • YES! We actually don't have a dog, but I went over to my Uncle's house for Monday night football last week and his dog wouldn't leave me alone! Both my Uncle and Aunt kept saying that she must know I'm pregnant and that the baby is coming soon, because she never acts like that! Hosa (the dog) kept coming over to where I was sitting on the couch and putting her head in my lap. And then, every time she'd come into the room, she'd come to me first, as if to check on me. And she kept looking at me too. I think animals totally know...

  • I think it's a pet thing! I have 3 cats, one of which has always been really cuddly... The other two pretty much hate my guts. The last two days all three of them have jumped up on the couch with me, cuddled in a nook and placed a paw on my belly... It's so weird

  • yes!!! I have 2 black labs and they are constantly on top of me or under my feet.  My one lab will follow me everywhere.  Upstairs to bed, into the bathroom, she even sits outside the door when I shower.  Its only been the past few days, I just think they know that something is about to go down.  Little do they know there whole world is about to change!

  • My dog usually sleeps under our bed, but for the past few weeks she's been really clingy and tries to sleep on the bed with us. I think for her its more of a "change is coming" type of thing. She doesnt want me to forget that she's there....and i could never! She's my buddy!

  • My little dog has always been one that wants constant attention, but she has gotten even worse the last few days.  My husbands lab has also started trying to be a lap dog.

The other day I was at a friends house and their neighbor's dog was out and she is a very hyper dog that they cannot get to calm down and I went over to pet her and she immediately calmed down.  Usually she jumps all over me, but this time she sat still and let me pet her.

  • Too funny! Our Weimaraner is pretty much always up my arse but has been worse than usual today. She hasn't left my side. Not that I'm complaining she is so warm and cuddly. I hope for you it means the baby is coming. I am hoping my baby stays in there for at least another week!
  • It's so funny that our pets have these instincts!  It's sweet that they're almost trying to protect us pregnant ladies :) And the extra attention is nice!  I hope that it continues for a couple more weeks, cuz I'm not ready to have this baby yet!
  • Our lab is like that with me too! He's usually not too cuddly with me either, he prefers to be with hubby or by himself. But for the last week or two he hasn't left me alone. When we ask him "where's the baby?" He puts his paw on my belly.
