1 yr Pictures coming up...Any suggestions?

I scheduled DS for his 1 year photos to be done at Walmart next week. Unfortunately, Walmart is the only place around here to get them done without paying over $1000  for a professional photographer. Does anyone have any suggestions about the process? Should we bring props or not? Did you ask for different backgrounds? Any clothing suggestions? Anything else that would help make the pictures nicer?

  • I would definitely bring your own props, a number one or first initial prop, favorite books and toys. I usually pick clothes with no patterns so they aren't distracting. A crisp white shirt with navy blue shorts or that kind of thing. Also baby feet look adorable in pictures so I always have them go barefoot.

  • We take C to JC Penny's.  We've gone to Sears as well.  As much as I'd love to spend the $ on professional, we just don't have the $ since I'm staying at home.  That being said, I don't know about Walmart, but both the places that I've been, they have had their own props.  I'm sure that Walmart will be perfect.  My friend did Walmart, and they looked great!  As for clothing, I'd just have him in something nice, maybe a dress shirt or sweater/sweater vest thing.  But that's just my taste.

Can't wait to see his pictures!

  • Avoid the smokey blue blue background, if available go with something more classic like white or black.

  • I remember my BFF did her daughter's 6 month pics at Walmart a few years back and they were awesome! I think the studio had some flowers for props and she went with a plain white background, but all of them were adorable.

  • Expect it to be like herding cats.  Bring things that will distract your child and if you have someone who can always make your baby smile, bring them.  Also, avoid doing what I did and bring them while they are suffering from and ear infection.

  • We just did our 1 year shoot yesterday. It was at a park so I didn't do many props because there was so much nice scenery. I did bring a "one" pennant banner and a small bunch of brightly colored balloons. I think balloons would be a great prop for you to bring. They would probably look really nice with a bright white background. I also agree with everyone else to go with simple classic clothes. My DS wore jeans, and a sweater with a button down underneath. You don't want anything that will distract from LOs cute smile.
