DId your doctor check your progress at 39 weeks? I haven't been checked in two weeks and really it was to help check to see if he was head down. Also when did you start to go to the doctor twice a week? Does this even happen? TIA.
I've been coming in to the dr every two weeks since 20 weeks due to other complications, but started every week at week 36. I've had an internal at every appointment since week 36 (40 week appointment tomorrrow), and like PP said it never occurred to me to decline it.
I've been going in once a week since 36 weeks. The doctor has asked me since week 38 if I wanted her to check my cervix. I said no at week 38 and then yes at week 39 (I was not dilated at all). She told me if I go past 40 weeks, then she will want to see me twice a week starting after my due date in order to check to make the sure the placenta is still working properly. After 41 weeks, she will schedule an induction because there is more risk for the placenta to fail.

My doctor doesn't start checking until 39 weeks, so I think at my next appointment (tomorrow) she'll do an internal. They've never said anything about twice weekly visits, so I don't know about that one.
I think every OB/MW is different with internals. My MW doesn't do internals until 40 weeks unless it's requested by me earlier or if there is a reason to check. I had to have one at 32 weeks because of a preterm labor scare and I am actually considering asking her to check me this week even though I know it doesn't necessarily provide a lot of usable information. I won't ever have to do twice weekly appts although I'm not sure if that's standard in other practices.

I started seeing my doctor once a week at 36 weeks. She did an internal then, skipped and ten checked again at 38 weeks. I won't be checke again until I go in for delivery. I don't think it's common practice to go 2 times a week.

I started getting checked at my weekly appointments (so from 36 weeks on). I am going in twice a week now; once for a regular appointment, and another for a NST (but they still check weight, BP, and urine). Plus, an ultrasound at the MFM clinic to check/recheck fluid. The NST is because my fluid is on the low side of normal, otherwise it would be one appointment a week until 41w (when they induce)
I've only been checked at my 36 week appt, and I go weekly now. If they don't offer to check me on my next appt, I'm just going to ask them to. Even though it doesn't mean a whole lot, I'm just curious to see if anythings going on in there lol
My Dr's office does checks every week starting at 38 weeks, unless you request it sooner.
I think twice a week is only for high risk or if you are over due. I've been going twice a week since 32 weeks (twins). It's a good thing if they only want to see you once a week.
I had my first internal exam yesterday... My doctor did a sweep to help get things started, but I've been going bi-weekly for the last two weeks because I have pregnancy induced hypertension and my doctor is concerned about pre-eclampsia... (I had to be induced because of it with my other child).
Re: Internal Exam and Dr. Visit question.
This time my MW asks me at every appointment if I want to be checked. I've been checked at every appointment since 36wks except for 38wks.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
