JJ Cole Bundle Me - Northeast

Anyone in a cold weather climate use this? I'm in the Philly area. Is it a good product to have for the winter? Do you use it in the carseat all the time, or just for walks? Thanks!

  • I'm from upstate N.Y. and we use them all the time, just not in car seats, it's not safe, only in the stroller.

  • This is not safe for the car seat.  JJ Cole makes a shower cap style one that is fine to use with a car seat.

  • I loved the Jeep brand bundle me thing.  It has an elastic bottom that just fits right over the carseat after you strap the kiddo in.  I need to see if it will fit over my convertable seat now.  She was snug as a bug all last winter in that.

  • The Bundle Me was one of the best things I had with both of my kids. So much easier than blankets which would slide or get kicked off. They made walks so much easier (for me, anyway, since I didn't have to worry about them being cold!)

  • I used the urban bundle me in the car seat all the time (DD was a winter baby).

  • I am in NJ and was in NYC the past 5 winters. My bundle me was essential for us, but you can only use it in the stroller. It's very dangerous in a carseat. I highly recommend toddler size since you can use it for a few years!

If you want something for a carseat, you can get a shower-cap style cover that goes over the seat, but doesn't interfere with the harness or buckling your baby tight enough.

  • It's definitely a personal preference here.  I used the JJ Cole shower cap style (we live in MN) and it worked great for the winter.  In my Mom & Baby class, 4 of the other Mom's used the BundleMe - I personally didn't use it because of the safety issues I had read about with using it in the carseat, but I know many people who have used it  - it's very much a personal choice (kind of like the debate over bumpers).

Its actually not really a personal choice in the case of bundle mes in car seats. You void the warranty on your car seat because they add extra bulk to it not allowing your child to fit properly the way the seat was designed. They are only appropriate for stroller use.

  • We had the shower cap style. It was FABULOUS! We used it all the time---to and from the truck, in stores/restaurants to keep him sheltered from others when he was tiny, etc. It was great because it wasn't able to blow in the wind like blankets and you could easily keep things tucked at his sides without loosing them (rags, toys, etc).

I wouldn't get the type with the backing....unless maybe you wished to get the stroller kind.

  • we had the bundle me. When we went to get the car seat installed our local police dept warned us about using it. They said no mats, mirrors, shades, or bundle mes unless they were made by the company that the carseat was made by...we have the Chicco Keyfit and they don't make any of those accessories.

We returned it and have the shower cap style to use instead.

  • We had the bundleme (we live in NY), and loved it!  I guess I'm not understanding how or why you would remove it before you got into the car, unless you aren't using a carrier.  We always kept it on the carrie and snapped right into the base in the car.  There was a slot for the seat belt to come through, and it worked just fine.  In fact, JJ Cole says you can use it with the car seat.

I must be confused how everyone else was using it.  I have never heard of this before.  Bottom line to your question though, it is a must have!!

As you can read in the previous posts, the bundle me used in the carset is a safety hazard and voids the manufacturer warranty on the carseat.  NOTHING should go between baby and seat - no blanket, mat, infant head insert, bundle me, etc.  Anything that does, does not allow the baby to sit securely in the seat.  The shower cap style that does not go between baby and seat is fine.

I didn't know I was supposed to believe everything I read on the internet.  Thank you for pointing out the previous posts.  I think I'll go read Wikipedia now, and make sure I believe everything they say too.

For the record, I have never heard of this before, and in fact my GRACO carrier instruction manual indicates that it is safe to, *gasp* put a head support or towel between the baby and the seat, so long as it doesn't interfere with the harness.  The Bundleme does not interfere either, as it it provides slots for the harness to still function without any issues.

Now, please do me a favor and step off of you box where you seem to be preaching to the wrong person.

Wow.  You come to a message board and ask if something is a "good" product and then attack someone who tells you the product is UNSAFE for your child?  Since you mentioned, Graco says that the infant head support that COMES WITH THE SEAT can be used (obviously).  Otherwise, if more support is needed, towels can be used.  These are not actually going behind the baby, thus interfering with the harness.  They are just going around baby's head and/or around the baby over the harness straps.  In case you missed this part, the manual also says "Do not modify your infant restraint and base or use any accessories or parts supplied by other manufacturers."

You're right in the fact that the Bundle Me has holes that allow for the harness to come through.  That does not mean that the holes are in the proper place for every carseat and it may still not allow the harness to function properly.  The bigger issue is that the Bundle Me actually goes behind baby, thus in a crash, it can become compressed and allow more space between baby and seat.  For baby to be safe (again, per the Graco manual), no more than 1 finger should be able to be inserted between baby and harness.  If you put baby in seat with something behind them and a crash occurs with compression of baby into seat, that space becomes wider.

For the record, I live in a place much colder than Philly and I would never utilize an unsafe product when safe products are on the market that will also keep baby warm.  Get a shower cap style, it does the same thing and is safe.
