C-sections

my baby got stuck (long) xp vbac

Long story short: I stopped dilating at an 8 after 27 hours and 18 minutes of labor. (from the time my water broke to the time LO was pulled out of me). During my CS, my ob told my husband, midwife and I that there was NO way DS was going to fit through my cervix. He had a huge indention around his head from being stuck in my cervix. After that long of a labor, I was begging them to cut me open and take him out.. I was put on oxygen b/c lo's heart rate was dipping, my blood pressure was going up and i was getting a fever. I was having to breath so hard that the oxygen mask was collapsing in my hand. I thought I was dieing. LO was 7 lbs and 6 ozsSo, after that labor and delivery, DH and I decided that future children would be delivered by planned CS.

Well, 11 days ago, I watched my baby sister give birth to her little boy. she had a vaginal delivery and it was the most amazing thing I think i have ever seen. Part of me wants to have that experience but the other part is scared shitless of horrifying labor and having another CS bc I stopped dilating.

Has anyone else had the baby get stuck issue and have a VBAC?

  • I haven't had an experience like that, but wish you luck! You never know - maybe you'll be able to VBAC.......

  • DD didn't get stuck in my cervix but she was stuck in me. Her head was way to big to fit through my pelvic bone.

I've seen 3 vaginal births and they are amazing but I don't think I am going to VBAC.

  • It sounds like your baby was stuck in your pelvis. Considering he wasnt so big he could have been in a bad position for delivery like sunny side up. Where you induced? If you were, maybe your body wasn't ready for labor so it stalled out like that. There are so many women that have had this happen but go on to have a wonderful vbacs.

I had a csection before ever experiencing labor. My OB was convinced that I was too small and basically freaked me out with all the stories of what could happen. Next time, I will be working for a VBAC. I have starteded to do lots and lots of research so that I am fully education unlike last time. From what I have read there are something things you can do to increase your chances of the optimal position of your baby. Visiting a Chiropractor can help open your pelvis and realign things so that baby can fit and position properly. I have also read that pregnancy Yoga can help with this. There is also this great site that talks about positioning and methods to achieving the most ideal one called spinningbabies.com. If you do decide to go for a vbac its also great to have a supportive OB/Midwife and a doula.

ICAN is a great place to look for motivating stories and information on this. They are on facebook which I enjoy because they will post stories of women and their experiences. If there is an ICAN chapter near you they can also help you find supportive OBs.

I hope this info helps some. I too want so bad to have a successful vaginal birth. I am afraid that my baby will get stuck but, if I dont try I will never know.

  • As far as I know, he wasn't sunny side up. My mom had worried through my whole pregnancy that I wouldn't be able to have a vaginal delivery. I have a very petite frame (I'm only 5' tall.) My water broke on its own and contrax started a few hours later. They did put me on pit b/c they weren't doing much on their own. They did have to stretch my cervix a few times though. As amazing as a vaginal delivery looks and seems, I am completely terrified of being in that situation again. I don't know if I have the guts to even try a vaginal delivery again.

I think I replied to your post on the VBAC board too, but my first baby got stuck during pushing, and I had a VBAC with a slightly larger baby.  I am only 4'10, so being petite definitely does not rule out VBAC.  You need to figure out whether VBAC or RCS seems right for you.  If you imagine your next birth both ways, which appeals to you more (fear aside)?  Will you regret not trying for a VBAC, or do you think you would be happy having a RCS?

  • I have a very similar story. I realized I was in labor at about midnight, and late that afternoon they started prepping the bassinet because they were sure the baby was almost there.  Then things slowed down and, even with pitocyn, we couldn't get the contractions strong enough again or close enough together. Also, the baby's heart rate was getting too fast during contractions and too slow in between.  So she was delivered by c-section at about 4:30 am.  She was sunny-side up, and I think she would have fit just fine if she had turned around; I am 5'0".  Although my daughter is only 3 months old, I am thinking I want to have another baby and will definitely try for a vaginal delivery next time.  I am already starting to research... I figure if I try for VBAC, the worst that can happen is that I end up with another c-section.  But if I don't try, I will never have a chance at a vaginal birth.  Good luck!
