Leaving LO 1st time ?s

So we r planning to go out for our first date night tonight and I'm nervous. We r going to leave LO with my parents and we r going to leave a bottle. I have been pumping and have a little stash made up, but I have some questions.

What is the best way to thaw breast milk?

If he doesn't drink it all, can we save it? If so, where... The fridge? Not refreeze?

As long as all of the milk I the same temp, can it be combined? I have bags of 2oz frozen but he is eating 4oz at a time

Best way to warm up the milk?

How warm should it be? Room temp or warmer?

Thanks so much!!

  • I would put it in the fridge now. Your mom can put 2 bags in hot water to thaw. I use our Keurig but you can just warm up a bowl/mug of water in the microwave for a minute (not boiling). I use my fingers to mix up the milk in the bag before putting in a bottle. The temp will depend on the kid. My baby will take cooler milk, some won't. Have you given a bottle before? You might want to try one this afternoon if not. Do not refreeze the milk. It will be good in the fridge for 10hrs once thawed, if he hasn't drank out of it yet. Once he takes a sip, it is only good for an hour.

  • PM me your email address and I'll email you a cheat sheet that explains all of this. Do you have a bottle warmer? I warm up my milk there. Always test the milk on your wrist for temp before feeding.

  • Pp answered pretty much everything. You can certainly combine milk of the same temperature. All the stuff from the hospital says that the thawed milk is good for 24 hours after thawing and not to refreeze. I'd only thaw what you need for sure. It thaws pretty darn quickly in hot water, so if you need more it won't be a problem. Have a great date.
