How do you answer how long you have been TTC

I don't even know if we have a problem or not because I have a lot of "excuses" for why a cycle didn't work out. We have been ttc since March. Two cycles since I was out of town so I can't say we have been trying for seven months. At least two cycles I had Luteal phase defect. That doesn't leave many viable cycles. Grrrr... It's hard not knowing what the heck is going on. We are going to a fertility center in the testing cycle now and maybe because it's so much money not covered by insurance I feel sort of blah about the whole thing. Like wait! Maybe we're okay! Except I am 39...
Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.

    We had the same issue. It was officially 7 cycles, but several of those were ill-timed. You might be getting ahead of yourselves, but you may (and I hope not for you) also find that there is virtually no way for a natural conception like we did. Going for testing doesn't mean you will decide for intervention and it doesn't mean you won't conceive naturally.

    Maybe, if there is a medical issue, and it's an 'easy' fix, you can take care of it now.  If there is a bigger problem that points to requiring more agressive/invasive/expensive intervention and assistance, you will have given yourself more time to make necessary decisions and/or save for treatments.

    More importantly, given that we are over 35, time is of the essence.  The sooner you have the answers, the sooner you can seek treatment if there is a potential a problem.  You will be all the better for it.

    For the insurance company, you have been trying over 6 months ;) how ever I don't think for anyone else it makes a difference...its between you and dh...but getting answers is so very important to help you make the best decisions for you, dh and future baby.

    Me: 41 DH: 46. We are TTC our 1st, started July '11,
    3 cycles clomid with Ob,
    1 cycle Tamoxifen with Ob,
    Diagnosed PCOS 11/5/12
    clomid, trigger & timed bd 12/12 BFN
    1st clomid IUI 1/4/13 BFN.
    2nd clomid IUI 2/13 cancelled didn't respond to clomid.
    3/15/13 scheduled laparoscopy & on bcp.

    May 10 IUI from injectibles - BFN 

    May 22 done with interventions it will either happen or it won't. 

    February 2014 No longer actively trying, but not preventing. 

    SURPISE BFP 4/2/2015!!!!!!!!!!

    Miscarriage 4/23/15

    For me it was hard to decide how many years to count.  We started dating in 2001 and began living together in 2002 and never used protection or the pill after that.  In 2006 we married.  By 2007 we were trying IUIs and by 2009 we'd started our first IFV.  It's hard to say how many years we were trying vs not trying to NOT get pregnant.  I usually say we tried 5 years before beginning treatments.

    ETA: Being 35 I would personally want to get on into see and RE and start having tests or whatever done to know if it's just taking y'all awhile or if there is an actual problem.  Like pp said, time is of the essence in case treatments are needed.

    It is an easy question for us: our entire marriage... We got married in June 2010 and I stopped the pill in July 2010.... 

    TTC #1 since 8/1/10; Me:41 and BRCA1+, DH:46
    DOR (FSH 24.3)/ terrible egg quality ; homozygous MTHFR c677t
    5 IUI's: 2/11 to 6/11 and 1/12= BFN
    OE IVF#1-4 8/11-6/12= all BFN
    DE IVF#1 11/12 bad embryos= BFN
    DE IVF #2 2/13 BFP/Beta hell: m/c 5w6d
    CFNBC 7 months, not doing well; decided on guarantee program at RBA w/frozen DE
    DE IVF #3 1/14  ET 4BB; BFP;M/C 5w1d, incomplete m/c; MVA extraction in ER 7w1d

    AMA & SAIF. TTC #1 since Oct. 2010. DX: Unexplained. BFP on break after 32 months trying and 2 med cycles. Baby girl born at 40w0d!
