18 weeks and have a question

I am 18 weeks pregnant and have yet to feel my baby move. Im wondering is that normal or is there something wrong? I went to get tests done for disorders such as down syndrome and so on and I have an appointment on Monday to discuss the results. Im a bit worried there is something wrong. Anyone else going through this??

Re: 18 weeks and have a question

  • I wouldn't worry yet. Some don't feel movement till 20+weeks. My sister felt her twins at 21 weeks and now her little boy at 20. I'm at 17 weeks and only felt a flutter laying down after running, no movement/kicks.

  • If this is your first baby, its not uncommon to be 20+ weeks before you feel baby. Or, you may have already felt baby and not even have known it but disregarded it as gas, digestion, or just shifting/stretching of your own body. Also, it can depend on where your placenta is. Your placenta placement can determine how soon you feel baby if its forward or further back in your uterus. I wouldn't worry at all... in a few months your going to be wishing baby would just sit still long enough for you to fall asleep! lol

  • With #1, I didn't feel her "for sure" until 20+ wks, and then it was non-stop movement. At any point during the day, I could get my kick count done within 2 min.

  • I didn't feel my first move until 22 weeks. All is well.
  • It is normal especially if it is your first pregnancy.

  • Don't worry, you might have an anterior placenta. I have one, it means your placenta is along your belly instead of behind the amniotic sac. It buffers the kicks, but once they get stronger you'll start feeling them. I didn't feel much until recently and I'm 22 weeks.
  • I started feeling mine move around 19 weeks, but my doctor told me at my 17 week appointment that I probably wouldn't feel him until 20+ weeks since I am a FTM. So it's normal, no need to worry. :)

  • I am 17 weeks and what everyone is telling you is completely correct.  Don't worry, its completely normal.  Just try not to stress and sooner or later you are going to feel the baby move and it will relax your nerves! :)

  • First of all initial movements sometimes feel like gas, its hard to tell. My MIL works for an OB and I went to visit her.  There's a big list of things on the wall questions that I guess they get a million calls about! one was "Movement starts approx 20 weeks"  "big kicks 24 weeks"

  • I'm a few days shy of 18wks with my 6th baby and I just felt the first unmistakable kick yesterday. I've felt seldom flutters here & there that made me wonder if it was the baby or if it could have been organs shifting, gas, etc. But until yesterday, nothing that I knew was definitely baby.

Besides my first, I felt all of my others move around 15/16... so it was strange for me to go this long before noticing movement. Just goes to show every pregnancy & baby is different.

I definitely wouldn't worry... especially if this is your 1st. :)
