We are looking for a 3rd bday gift. My daughter loves to play games on our phone and iPad but I am hesitant to leave her alone with them. Should we buy her some kind of vetch or leap frog for traveling? Any experience I would appreciate.
Our DD uses our phones and iPad frequently also. I have heavy duty cases on my iPhone and iPad. I don't leave her alone with them at home a lot (I'm worried she'd step on the iPad or something) but traveling in the car she gets to have it.
I'm spoiled with the apps on the iPad so I just haven't found anything else I like as much for her to have at her birthday in Jan.
If you upgrade your technology regularly give your 3 yr old your old stuff. DD LOVES playing with technology so we always give her our old phones, tablets, and laptops. It doesn't take her long to figure them out. We took DH's old smart phone and loaded it with a bunch of kid apps for our cross country drive a month ago. Between that and her Nook loaded with cartoons she was happy the entire 3 day trip. As for the kid's versions, DD got one from her grandparents for Christmas last year but it doesn't get played with very often. She prefers the big kid "toys."
I got an HP tablet when they were discontinued last summer. Got it @ 75% off the regular price. I loaded it up w/ a bunch of kid apps about 3 months ago. DD can navigate her way through it pretty well, both the apps and the you tube videos. She drops it a LOT. She's 2. I don't know how she would feel if I got her a leap pad. Like PP said, she likes our toys. She also has an old blackberry of ours. I wouldn't buy her anything new but would give her our old stuff when we upgrade.

The demo online had the guy climb up a 5 foot ladder and drop it then pour a bucket of water on it. He picked it up and turned it on, played some music and I was sold!
With 2u2 it has tested to be very reliable. the kids have kicked it off the couch and it has flown across the room with hard wood floors....not a scratch or a hiccup ever.

Maybe invest in a protective case or buy a discount one like PP's suggested. We have a Vtech-DD will not use and borrowed a friends Leap Pad while visiting-she wasn't interested. DD prefers the phone or iPad.
