Gift bag for DS's preschool party

The school allows for a parent to bring in a cake for a party.  They gave me a list already of what's not allowed in terms of treats (sucking candies, lollipops, popcorn, soda - anything that might be a choking hazard).  I was also thinking of maybe getting little gift bags for the kids - but because I don't know what any of the kids might be allergic to, I'm thinking of making them non-food but need ideas.

Help?

    Is there a theme?

    I'd probablly go to the dollar bins at target and see what they had.  Coloring books, crayons, mini-books, stickers, playdoh.

    Good call!  I hadn't thought of Target.  I had thought of crayons and stickers but play-doh!  I can't believe I didn't remember play-doh.

    Nope, no theme.  I'm just going to pick up some nice colorful cupcakes at a bakery by work and bringing that and the bags to his class.  I'm not holding my breath.  The last 2 birthdays have kinda been FAIL so I'm just hoping that maybe we can sing happy birthday and hang out a little.

    Since you do not know what allergies anyone has, I would ask the teacher quickly if there is anyone doing a GF diet or a gluten intolerance. Play-doh is made with flour. Flour has gluten in it. The only reason I say it is in case anyone is super sensitive to gluten and reacts to it if it touches their skin. Otherwise, I love the ideas already presented!

    I think crayons and coloring books is a great idea. When I was teaching we had to instruct patents to stay away from food all together.

    It's funny.  Being a part of this group made me completely nix the idea of "treats".  All the posts about special diets, allergies, etc it occurred to me that I have no idea what the kids in his class might be allergic to.  I might even go one further and get vegan, gluten-free cupcakes - just in case.  There's a bakery close by that makes DEEEEELICIOUS vegan gluten free cupcakes.

    Party city has an aisle with some really fun gift bag items. Ds loves these little plastic men with stocky stuff on their hands and feet that climb down the wall. But there are lots of things to choose from. Oeintal Trading Company also has lots to choose from online.
