DS has always been a bit sensitive to very loud high pitched noises (like little girls shrieking). However, in the past week it's changed. He now cries if somebody sneezes. The cry that gets him to start losing his breath (it's an upset cry, not angr or a scream). He cried when we got to sign language class today. He cried when a boy yelled during the "loud" section of the class (they were doing quiet and loud and a 3 yr old boy yelled the word "loud" every time). He was upset and clinging when we got there.
I understand the upset and clinging could be the development of separation anxiety (he's never had any) or stranger anxiety (I think he understands that they're strangers because he usually acts different but he's never just clung to me when he doesn't know someone else. He's very social).
Could he just be teething or something else is going on that is making him upset? Would this warrant a trip to the dr for you?
Re: Change in behavior?
When ds turned about 2.5, he went through a terrible phase of separation anxiety, Everytime dh dropped him off and I would pick him up, he would cry really hard. He was with the same teachers and kids he had always had. We were baffled.
Now he only cries whenever he is over stimulated, Like a few weeks ago we were at the childrens museum and were with a group of several other kids, ds started to unravel and was beginning to throw things at the other kids, I sat him down with me in a quiet corner, used his sensory brush from OT and brushed him arms and legs, Once he got into control, he was ready to play normally with the other kids.
