Eh, my vote is not necessary. I made my baby food (a stage that only lasts like 3 months, by the way). I used my regular veggie steamer in a pot on the stove to cook them, then pureed them in either our food processor if it was a huge batch (I think a regular blender would work well for this too), or using an emersion stick blender if it was a smaller batch (I did buy this but they are relatively cheap and we continue to use this kitchen gadget today for non-baby things). I then parsed them out in to single portions using those Glad mini-round tupperware cups with lids to cool & freeze, then once frozen, would pop them out of those cups & store in ziplock bags in the freezer.
Worked awesome, I never bought jarred baby food, she ate all homemade stuff until she was ready for table foods.

I steamed stuff in the microwave and then use the blender or food processor for a month or two and then did Baby Led Weaning anyway. Its just another way to separate you from your money.
I coveted the Beaba, its so cute! But I didn't get it in the end and am really happy about it. We did purees for about 3 weeks with D1 and once or twice with D2.
I made purees for D1 with a steam basket and a stick blender.

My mom bought me one with DS off ebay. I used it all the time! I never made it without the thing though, but I assume it wouldn't be a necessary appliance. It did steam and purree the food without having to wash any extra dishes though and it was done in a just a few minutes. I thought it was useful. Some other brands make cheaper versions though.
I LOVE my Babycook. I have used mine for both girls, let a friend borrow it when she had her baby, and I will be using it again with this LO, so I feel I am getting good value for the price I paid. With this being said, I recently saw something similar at Walmart (sorry, can't remember the name) for about half the price. Would be worth checking out.
A friend gave me one and I loved it. At first I found a blender easier for large batches but once she was eating more I could puree what we were eating very easily. The baby food stage, at least for us, lasted longer than three months it was more like 6 from 6 to 12 months and even at 12 months I was still using the steam part to make things soft.
I don't think so. I ended up using a Kitchen Aid mixer attachment because I could make food in bulk without having to make it in batches. The Beaba is adorable but small. I did use the Beaba freezer containers and they are fantastic.
I wouldn't spend the money. LO started solids at 6 months and about 6 weeks later was on table food. I started with puree in the blender, food processor, or immersion blender then a started just smashing it with a fork. Those custom appliances are soooo tiny you cannot do a large batch of food or even one entire sweet potato. i wouldn't waste the money. I froze any extra in ice cube trays and then popped them into ziplock bags. For school i sent everything in using the small glad containers.
Thank you for the feedback. I do have a good blender and an immersion blender, I guess it's better for me to invest in a good steamer basket, and just use these. I agree that it's cute appliance, though!
Re: s/o: making your own baby food- Beaba?

this. it is handy for small amounts but I try to do bulk and then I use my big pot with mulitple steamer inserts and my immersion blender.
