Help with learning words?
Hi!
I haven't written on this board in a long time...been so busy with everything going on! My son is now 14 months, 11 months adjusted. He still has some difficulty producing words and i'm starting to get a little bit worried because i don't know what I should do. He does say 'mama' and 'dada' but not directly to me or to his dad. How can you teach this? Is there anything else I could be doing? It gets to me a little, and I just don't know what to do. I know that only another mommy with a preemie baby would understand...any advice would help! If it is that I need to just chill out, please let me know. It's just hard on some days...
Also, he is cruising around the house all day long, but has yet to gain the confident to let go and stand alone. I'm not forcing him in any way, but i just wonder if there's anything else I could do to help?

Thanks ladies for the reassurance! I'm doing all that you mentioned. I repeat words, I read books to him, and show him body parts, i have conversations with him...the whole nine yards!
Wanna know why i'm wondering about all this so much?! I'm an SLP! I do this for a living! But not early intervention...that's the part I never liked, and now i'm afraid I did myself a disservice by not paying as much attention to that! I work with kids at about 3 and up in the school system. Ugh!
We have a developmental appt next week, so I will ask about it. I know I can't be an SLP and a mom at the same time with my son, so i will choose to just be mom and listen to the suggestions she makes.
