Babies: 9 - 12 Months

X/P: Babies and Jet Lag

I am reposting this from 6-9 months:

I'm going to be traveling with DS next month from Canada to Dubai and it will be the first time DS is on an airplane. We have a quick flight to Seattle and then 16 hours to Dubai. I have always been affected by the time difference and I expect no less from DS. For those that have done any traveling, how did you help your LO's jet lag?

And on another related question, any advice for traveling with a 9 month old?

  • We're flying to Hawaii from the east coast (10 hr flight, 6 hr time difference) next weekend and would like to see the responses.

From what I've read, babies can adjust easier to the time difference, but I have no personal experience to say that is true or not.

For the flight - we got E his own seat, because he is mobile and will not sit on a lap for very long.  I plan to give bottle or paci on the way up and down.  I'll be bringing some new toys and books to play with during the flight.  Good advice I've gotten is to make sure you have a spare outfit for baby and you. I plan to wear E in my Ergo through security.  I also got a car seat carrier to put our convertible seat it, the plan is for H to wear as a backpack through the airport.

From my experience, going through security with medical liquids (breastmilk counts as medical liquids) can be time consuming, but the additional screening is really no big deal.  Just plan for lots of extra time for the entire process.

  • I moved my LO overseas a few months back. The best advice I can give is to get your LO out in the sun to help reset the internal clock. And follow a schedule as closely as possible to "normal".
