I'm losing my mind over here trying to find a new place to live. We have until mid November. We are leaving our current place because we need more space (850 sq feet with 2 adults, a baby, and a cat...yikes!). The problem is I can't find anything in our budget that's in a decent area. We don't know the city all that well, we've only been here a year, so I have been doing a lot of research online about demographics and crime rate. I think the biggest problem is that people in this area just spend too much of their take home pay on housing! When I look at the demographics in the areas that fit our budget the average household income is less than 1/2 of what ours is...and that's without me working. Also, we'd like to live somewhere where there are people like us, educated, 30's ish, young family, but in a racially/ethnically diverse neighborhood. It's just not possible!
Re: Finding a new rental, Vent, NBR
SCANDAL!
Obviously something's got to give...I'd be fine living in a place with older people! This next move isn't a permanent one. We'll probably move again in a year, so I'm not even looking at schools yet...thank goodness! It would be nice to be around people our own age though...we don't have many friends here.
I hear ya. Really, the age is just a "nice to have" thing. What's the most difficult is finding a racially/ethnically diverse neighborhood in our price range. We live in a big city with some all white, all black, all Hispanic, and all southeast Asian populations. We totally aren't racist, we don't even want to live in an all white neighborhood, but we do want to fit in. There are plenty of racially diverse neighborhoods here too, just not in our price range!
ETA: When I say "all" I mean literally 92-98% of the population is one race or ethnicity...we would definately stick out like sore thumbs...DH is socially awkward enough as it is without drawing extra attention to himself, lol!
