Hello all!
I have a few GD questions to ask. A little background - this is my first pregnancy, I am 35w4d due 11/11/12, I was diagnosed with GD around 30-31 weeks, it is controlled by diet and exercise alone. (yay God) I had a growth sono at 33w5d and the baby was 4lbs 15oz and in the 56%. My OB hasnt said much about a plan for delivery yet, just that if it were a big baby it would be either a c-section or induced a week or so early. Sh hasnt mentioned if I will be getting another sono done or anything.
My questions would be- about how many growth scans do you typically have? When would they be done? Is 56% good or bad? What were your percentiles at what week and how big was your baby when born?
Im scared of having a big baby..Ive noticed a few of my friends who are a week behind me are bigger so I dont know if that makes my baby smaller or what...
Also, I cheated on my diet today and had

With my first I was dx'd with GD at 27 weeks. I was scheduled to get an u/s every 4 weeks. I got dx'd with pre-e at 34 weeks & induced at 37 weeks because of it. My son was 7lb 6oz when born. They did a growth u/s/make sure he was head down u/s at the hospital right before they induced me. They were off by about a lb at that point.
This time I have placenta previa & dx'd with GD at 26 weeks. The plan is an u/s every 4 weeks from here until the end. (this can change if I get pre-e again).
Size of a baby is not a reason to have a c/s. Those scans can be off as much as 2 lb in either direction. woman have huge babies vaginally all the time. 8-9 lbs is the norm anymore.
There is nothing wrong with "Cheating" once in a while. We are human!
I cheat sometimes and I feel guilty. My drs and nurses say it is ok once in a while. I had GD with my first and she was born 3 days prior to my due date and she weight 8lbs 2ozs. I had my 36 week appt this week and they estimated he weighs 5lbs 1oz. That was about 47th percentile. I think the closer your baby is to 50% the more "average" sized they consider it. I don't believe the size of your belly is very indicative of the size of the baby either. I tend to get huge in the belly, but appear to have kids on the average side. They are doing growth checks for me monthly, but I get ultrasounds every week to check for other things because of the GD.
I have scans every 3 wks starting a 20 wks, plus twice weekly bpp u/s and nsts (bpp and nst started at 32 wks- were originally once a week - became twice a week at 35 wks)
Sounds like you have an avg size baby.
My little one's scans he's go anywhere from 46-56%- depending
also they can be off by 10%.
Are you seeing an MFM? If not, then I'd see one- you should be monitored more.
Did you see a GD nutritionist?
ETA- I was diagnosed at 12 wks.

My doctor handes both regular and high risk. So I havent seen a new OB since diagnosed. I did see a nutritionist for 1 class, basically to teach me how to use my meter and what foods to avoid but since my numbers are all fine, I dont have to use meds or go back. My OB looks at my numbers each visit and I let her know if I had a spike.
But, my typically visits have been weigh ins, urine test, listen to the heart rate and she looks at my numbers. She has only measured me once for fundal height and I measured a week ahead which is when she sent me for the sono. I start pelvic exams next week and plan on asking about more monitoring considering I am getting further along.
