Was the result confirmed as accurate at your A/S? I'm trying to decide when I want to go in for my elective gender u/s. I wouldn't go earlier that 14.5 weeks. Any advice/experiences would be great! Thanks.

Our elective place only confirms money back after 17 weeks. We went at 17 with both pregnancies and both were confirmed at 20w.

16 weeks is when they can basically tell you the sex of the baby. If you read what the elective ultrasound places have, then you'd see that. Anything earlier, and it's difficult to know for sure. Nothing is ever 100% sure with ultrasounds either, so keep that in mind as well.

I got one done at 18 weeks and the sex was determined at the A/S one. My SIL paid for the 3D one because she couldn't wait to find out. I was more patient but if it's free and an extra chance to see my baby so I'll take it! LOL!

I wouldn't suggest going any sooner than 17 weeks though.

umm yea... i had 5 ultrasounds between 8weeks and 20 weeks - and i didn't even ask the U/S tech about gender until the 16wk one... She was right but she even said that it was hard to tell.

I didn't have an early U/s specifically for gender, but I had pt 1 of my anatomy scan at 16 weeks and they were able to definitively and correctly tell us the gender (which was then confirmed at 20 weeks).

The main 3d place here offers them starting at 14 weeks and the tech at my OB told me at my first appt that they could tell me at 14 weeks. I thought that was pretty early, but a lot of family/friends have gone to the same place and their scans were accurate. I thought others may have had different experiences hence my post.

I went at 16.5 weeks and it was confirmed accurate at 20 weeks (no doubt about it). The place we went didn't guarantee accuracy until after 16 weeks.

I went in at 16 weeks and LO was not at all shy about showing off her goods. It was confirmed at the A/S at my appointment just before I started week 20.

I went at exactly 14 weeks and they told us BOY. It is still a boy (it's been confirmed at over 5 different u/s since.)

But why? I just don't understand what a difference three or four weeks makes. My doctor's office offers an extra sono at an additional cost at 16 weeks, but when I opted not to, my doctor completely agreed with me saying "20 weeks is plenty of time to pick out pink or blue; why do you need 24 weeks?"

Oh, and guess what? I also wouldn't have been heartbroken if they couldn't tell me the sex for sure. GASP!! I'd have just waited the 9 whole months to find out!

And, really with your siggy? I haven't seen one that massive in awhile.

I went at 13 weeks but not on purpose. The gender was confirmed accurate at 20 weeks.

I would not pay for an elective U/s just to check gender but that is me. But I have learned that not all OB's do the same amount of sonograms as my doctor. So that probably plays a factor in my choice on elective U/S. I knew up front from my doctor all the dates in which we would have Sonograms (4 in total). And they do 3d/4d at the last 3.

When we did our 1st trimester screening (week 13) at the OB's office the sono tech took a peek and said boy.

At our A/S (week 20) it was the same tech and she was curious if she was right from the early week 13 peek. She said boy at that visit as well.

During our week 34 growth scan we happened to get a really good shot by accident and it is very obvious we are having a boy.

Most places usually have you wait until 16 weeks. We had an u/s with both pregnancies around that time and they were both right (I mean technically this baby isn't born yet but we've had an u/s at 16, 20, and 30 weeks that said girl so I think it's pretty safe at this point).

My doctor doesn't guess before the 18/20 week u/s. even then mistakes happen.

I had one at 16w and it was confirmed at my a/s. But just a FYI I have read plenty of posts that were not confirmed later. And my cousin had an early one at 14 weeks that was wrong. Good luck!

I waited for my a/s at 21 weeks and I'm glad I did. There are a few women on my BMB who were told girl at 16 weeks but it was a boy at their a/s.

I'm kidding, though. I know that everyone is different. I can respect that you would rather wait and could have even waited the whole 9 months. That's awesome. Some people would rather know earlier. Idk why you don't respect my point of view on it? I'm having a hard time with attachment this pregnancy. It makes me feel awful, but I've heard it's common the second time around. I feel that once I know the gender, pick a name, etc., it might be easier for me. And the sooner the better, in my opinion.

Agreed! I still don't get why some people on here get their undies in such a twist over this topic. Who cares if you want to go early? Who cares if some want to be surprised? I don't recall you asking for opinions on whether or not to find out, but rather the accuracy of the early US. As for me, I totally understand where you're coming from. This is my 3rd, and I'm under so much stress this pregnancy,that it's hard for me to bond or be excited. Finding out early for me was a big help. That being said, when I was told at 16 weeks it was a girl, I've always prepared for someone to tell me down the road it was a boy. I had 3 US since then and they all said girl, so I'm pretty confident now.

I guess I was impatient like the others suggest. I went to a 3d/4d place at 14 weeks. We mostly just wanted to see the baby and get some pics, but since we were there, we asked about the sex and the tech was right. We didn't tell anyone or buy anything until it was confirmed at a later ultrasound...but if you want to do it at 14 weeks than why not? At least you'll get some pics out of it. And some places guarantee so you can go back if they can't tell yet.

We've had alot of ultrasounds done during our pregnancy from 6 weeks until 20 weeks. This is our second baby. With our first-we found out she was a girl at our 20 week anatomy scan. We never had an ultrasound before that with that pregnancy.

This time though, like I said have been closely monitored and had ultrasounds every two weeks (almost). We went in at 13 weeks and that was when she first guessed that we were having another little girl. Of course it wasnt going to be highly accurate but it was fun and exciting to be able to hear a guess. We went back at 16 weeks and she said she was almost positive it was a girl. And again at 20 weeks-she was definatly a girl

So yes, our early ultrasounds were always right. Ultrasounds are improving all the time, and as soon as the genitals start developing more clearly (which is around week 11-12) some ultrasound technicians are able to guess what the sex is-by "angle of the dangle" etc. Granted-its not entirely accurate that early. I've read that it can be as accurate as 60%. But if your going to be getting another ultrasound at 20 weeks anyways, then I dont see why a "guess" could hurt. I dont see why people have to make you feel stupid if you go before 16 weeks or so.

I agree! The sonographer offered up "boy" (with 95% certainty) at my 11 week, 2 day appointment. I knew it was not confirmed yet, but at every other appointment, it has been a confirmed boy. It is my first, and I was excited to find out the gender... no harm in that! I'm a planner.

I will say that the place I went to was $40 for a 15 minute US. It felt very rushed and it kind of felt like she was guessing. And there are no refunds!! I've tried to call them back 3 times and I get no answer... so I guess you get what you pay for!!

We went at just under 16 weeks. I was ok with waiting until 20 weeks, but DH really wanted to know and it was only $60 so we went. It was pretty interesting and our moms went with us, so it ended up being a great experience. It was very obvious that DS was all boy.

The place we went guarantees accuracy after 14 weeks. If there's any question they'll bring you back in for a free one and if they end up being wrong they'll refund your money. I have several friends and family members who went between 14-15 weeks and they haven't been wrong so far.
