I would try Baby Gap. I feel like they do a lot more grays and tans than most of the other children's shops. I'd look in their boy section as well as the gender neutral section. I've seen a couple of cute sweaters and fox onesies in the boys section that could go either way.
This is why DS wore white onesies a lot. It gets worse with boy toddler clothes (I imagine girls run into similar issues). It's almost impossible to find stuff without dogs and trucks... or sayings like "little dude."
We were Team Green turned Team Pink. I only purchased newborn sized items due to wanting to wait for after baby was born and I knew her size and everything. We went to Carter's and shopped mostly in the boys section but for solid colors....orange, red, green, black, white, etc. I only bought a few things in bigger sizes (like 6mo or 9mo) like a solid orange zip hoodie and a solid white zip hoodie and pants.
its a good thing I didn't shop a lot. She was a week late and over 9 pounds. She went straight into size one diapers and only wore newborn clothes for two weeks....some newborn clothes she didn't even fit in. She mostly wore 0-3mo outfits.
I do have to say that I wasn't worried about her being in a boy type outfit after she was born while I recovered from my c-section. We were mostly at home and in the hospital, people were so excited that they finally knew the sex that they bought an outfit for her when we were in the hospital and they knew to get bigger sizes. After a few weeks of being at home when I was able to get out and about, I did some hardcore shopping!
It's tough! My bff was team green last year. At her shower, she received about 30 ducky outfits, it was horrible!! I hope you find some cuter things!!! There are a lot of great Etsy shops out there.

Hahaha... that's what I'm afraid of. I'm making a point of cracking jokes about all the ugly duck outfits out there, in hopes that my friends will catch on. :P
It was a rough road, but Arlo Daniel was born April 1, 2013—and our second rainbow is due October 12, 2014.
Re: Cute Gender Neutral Clothes?
Our team green turned team blue baby is wearing a lot of Carter's and Old Navy right now. I also like some of the Osh Kosh neutral stuff.
