My son never got a birthcirtificate when he was born. does anyone know how much they cost and where i can get one from? I live in California

Not from ca but ours was 15. Vital statistics reg was where we got our. Call the maternity dept of the hospital lo was born. They gave us the info when we were discharged

You would get it from your state/county. I know in here in MN you have to fill out a form and pay a fee to get a physical copy otherwise the county just keeps it on file.

In NC you go to the county court house. I paid $10 per copy.

DD1 was born in CA. I think it was $10 and we had to go the vital records office. Google for location in your town, or call the hospital where your LO was born to get the info from them.

You aren't automatically sent one in CA. We were given a form at the hospital I delivered at and instructions to submit it after 2 months. I think the cost was 18 or 20 dollars. Not all hospitals are as helpful with this type of information so it doesn't surprise me that the OP didn't know what to do.

Like everyone else, DH and I got what we needed to file for DS birth certificate! It said on the form or in the pamphlets with it, we had six months to order from one place and then after that it'd have to be done else where. Shouldn't be too hard to obtain one... and sorry, but the birthcertificate makes my skin crawl, ugh.

Not to sound snarky, but how is that even possible? Home birth? We got everything done at the hospital. Anyway, I believe you apply through your department of public health.

In KS you file paperwork for the birth, but are not given a birth certificate. You have to go online and pay $26 or go to the state capital to only pay $15 lol. We didn't get ds's until he was 2 and I was just reminded to order dd's. So, it's possible. It probably varies by state how you get them because we cannot just go to our local courthouse to get one.

I was born in CA, but live in IL now. A few years ago I applied for a passport and needed a birth certificate, which I only had a copy of. I found a website that got it to me within a few days for like $25 or something pretty cheap. I can't recall what the website was, but I was very pleased to get it so quickly!

(It was a private company, not the state)

The location to apply for a birth certificate varies state to state- in Indiana you would apply at the Health Department- the cost varies from county to county- and I know this because I worked in a health department in Indiana- and issued birth certificates to parents and others needing them for travel, school, etc.

I live in Illinois now, with my boys birth, I was given two forms (one for each) to fill out with the location of where to send them when completed- I was told to wait 6 weeks- since they needed that amount of time to record the births. Illinois - at least in my county- has two different types- one is more in depth and costs more the other is basic and of course is cheaper.

I would look up the county website where your child was born. It might have the information of where to apply.

We are in CA and thought it was being taken care of by the hospital as well. Just went on a trip and wanted to bring a copy and realized we don't have it so I also need to find out how to get one....

I believe ours was $20 but I live in Ohio. We went to our county health department. I'm sure you can probably google it for your county. GL!

I feel like our's cost $30. You have to go to the health department to get the birth certificate, they don't just issue one at the hospital. We got one at the hospital, but it's unofficial, and cutesy.

We filled everything out at the hospital, but have to go downtown to pick it up. It is at our Health Districts Office in the Vital Statistics office. I still have yet to go pick up DDs...I'm bad. It costs us $22 per copy.

For CA, you fill out the paper work and it gets filed. If you want a physical copy of it you have to go to Vital Statistics Reg. Google it for your county and you will find the info. I believe for my county it was $20 or so. I went to the my county's office and it was super fast and easy. For my county, you could do it by mail but the forms had to be notarized.
