Lila's appointment with a pedi GI is tomorrow, after along wait. We are concerned about reflux that is not responding to Zantac and her slow weight gain. I wonder if he will suggest supplementing BF with a high calorie formula. I am both anxious about her feeding challenges and also excited she will have a treatment plan.
If your child saw a pedi GI what was your experience?
Re: Did anyone's LO see a GI specialist?
My DD saw a GI for reflux issues. The first visit will be a lot of talking, sharing history and a short exam. Mostly the GI will want to know your concerns and what youv'e tried so far. Bring a list of questions and a list of any issues you've noticed.
Depending on the issues, the GI will probably order some studies. Upper GI and/or Lower GIs are really common--basically they have the baby drink some dye and then take a series of scans to see how far the baby is refluxing over an hour (or whatever set time). Its an easy test, not invasive at all and will give you some answers about reflux issues.
Good luck!
Our precious girl, born at 27 weeks.
All 3 of mine do,we were just there yesterday in fact. He handles their Prevacid and Neocate/Neocate Jr. DD1 originally saw him after her FTT diagnosis and hospitalization.
They monitor growth patterns, manage their MSPI,and reflux. Most of it is just reviewing history, symptoms, etc. DD1 had some testing done, the girls will if things do not improve in the next 2 weeks. All 3 girls also see a nutrionist elsewhere.
Good luck!
