finger foods

Just curious what foods you are giving your LO as finger foods...I am mainly just doing puffs, mum mum's , and little bits of bread. My Lo is 9 months old and was wondering if thing like black eyed peas or green peas would bee appropriate or if they are still a choking hazard??

Re: finger foods

  • Puffs, mum mums, whole grain cherrios, bits of... bread, watermellon, pancake, steamed carrots, whole wheat pasta, peas, tofu, banana, pears, cantaloupe, grapes, blueberries, mango, kiwi, avocado, mozzarella shredded cheese, jello, cooked apple bits. Just about anything that she eats that I can make in small/tiny bits for her to feed herself without a choking hazard.

  • DD eats puffs, Cheerios, bananas, watermelon, green beans, carrots, peas, peaches, bread, pasta, chicken, and a whole bunch of other stuff. At this point she eats mostly what we eat though sometimes with less seasoning or spice.

  • He eats pretty much anything we give him.  It's either already a soft food or it's cut into small enough pieces where he can swallow it whole in case he can't chew it properly (corn, for example, although we found out it makes interesting diapers for days).  He loves soft foods like squash and mango, but if it's in small enough chunks, he can manage almost anything off our plates.  He's been feeding himself since 6 months though, so finger foods are old hat for him.

Pretty sure DS is going to eat pureed food through college.  I envision a wedding reception where everyone has to eat Stage 2 jars of food.

The transition to table food stresses me the eff out.  We are not doing well in the Ensued Household.

Lol. DD will eat certain finger foods (puffs, bits of corn tortilla, tiny pieces of cheese), but if I give her a chunkier puree with a spoon she flips out and spits it back at me.

Mostly puffs, mum mum's, and bits of cheese. I just started giving him bits of what we eat and so far he loves it. I also just stopped pureeing his proteins and instead have been shredding it into small pieces. I didn't think of Cheerios, I think I'll give those a try next.

  • DD will eat anything that's in small pieces. That is my trick to get her to eat the purees. She's had beef, pork, chicken, fish, bananas, grapes, apples, bread, pizza crust (the soft part), pasta, rice, carrots, puffs (she has to have those every day) and other stuff I can't think of right now...

  • Like PP DS pretty much eats everything that we eat (unless I cook it in beer...mmm....brisket). We jumped right into finger foods since we are doing Baby Lead Weaning. If you are worried about the chocking hazzard just try smushing the peas and beans a little bit before putting it on the tray.

LOL!! While DD eats a variety of finger food (pretty much anything that can be cut into smaller pieces), she loves purees! We get the Ella's Kitchen purees and she is SO excited. She takes the pouch and feeds herself! Just tonight I let DS try it before I gave it to her and got so pissed and started crying!...Drama queen!
