Car seat

Ds2 is 4lb12.5oz. He may get up to 5lb by discharge. Maybe not. Well, our carseat is 532lb. We used it for ds1, who came home at 4lb12oz. But the NICU is more strict than the transition nursery at our old hospital. So we may need a carseat with a lower weight limit of 4lb.

Did any of you need this? If so, which brand did you prefer? TIA!

    We didn't have this issue, but our Chicco Keyfit 30, which is one of the most popular and best rated carseats, goes down to 4 pounds.

    My preferred car seat was a 5lb min too so we were prepared to borrow a chicco keyfit from a friend.  It ended up not being an issue because my DDwas well past 5lbs by the time she finally came home.  Perhaps there is someone that you can borrow a seat from for a few weeks instead of buying a new one?

    Mine were just above 5 lbs at d/c and we still use their Chicco Keyfit 30s.  Excellent car seat especially since we've gotten so much use out of them.

    We were lucky and the seat we had was 4lb limit and came with a preemie insert. Obviously we had no idea we were actually going to have a preemie. Ours is the britax chaperone and I love it and so does dd. Also they are recommending that you keep LO's in a rear facing seat until 2 or they hit the weight limit, I believe ours goes up to 30 lbs. I have heard wonderful things about the other seats pp recommend. So you can't go wrong! Good luck! Hoping LO is in that seat soon!!!!

    Thanks for your replies. We were hoping to use the snug ride 32 ds1 used. Ds2 has to gain 80g to hit 5lb. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We're in a bad way financially and I'm hoping we don't have to buy new. I'll ask around to see what my friends have.

    This, its what we have. Our NicU also sold car seats that they had approved... maybe that is an option?

    We used the Chicco Keyfit 30 for both my girls when they were discharged from the NICU.

    Our NICU won't let you go home without a car seat that is tested for a baby that is 4 lbs or greater.  We have a Britax and we love it.

    We used a Graco Snugride 30 with my LO which is rated from 4lbs.  She was 4lb12oz when discharged.
