WWYD? New job

So I'm supposed to be going back to work on the 29th, but I just got offered a job somewhere else and accepted. The new employer is being super nice and is waiting to fill the paperwork with my start date until after I put my notice in at the old place. Should I give my notice now? Here are some things I'm thinking of that I need to consider and think I should wait till I get back:
Health insurance coverage both LO and I are covered by my employers plan
Can my employer take anything away from me regarding my FMLA if I don't go back?
I still need to go back to gather personal items from my desk.
There is a chance that if I go back and then give my notice or even if I give my notice now, that they will make that day my last day.

So, what would you do? Give notice now or when I am supposed to go back? Should I let them believe I have another job or am just gonna be a SAHM?

    You would have to ask, but some employers will make you pay back any short term disability as well as any insurance premiums they paid while you were out.

    I'm actually going to a new job after I return from maternity leave in two weeks. But my situation is different since I'm a hairstylist. Although I was an employee I didn't have insurance through my work and i didn't qualify for FMLA. I did get state disability, which got taken out if all my checks so I was entitled to 4 weeks before EDD and 6 weeks after I delivered. I put in my notice last week, three weeks before I was due to return. I wanted to be honest and not cause hard feelings...or Atleast try not to. I still have some things I need to go pick up. I totally forgot to take them when I went in to quit. I'm in a different situation. If I were you I'd double check any rules on insurance and Disibility. I think insurance is good for 30 days after you quit.

    I would go back and give them a two week notice. Technically you would have done your due diligence and can move on. Wether or not they are angry or bitter is out of your control, but with two weeks (standard) you can honestly say you did your part and you can move on from there. I would tell the new job your starting date...since you know when you will go back after maternity leave and can just add on two weeks from there. If the old job says you don't have to come back, then you have two more weeks with your LO.

    I resigned from my job after DD1 was born to SAH. I gave notice about 2 weeks or so befor I was supposed to come back in my 12 week leave. My insurance defaulted back and I was only covered until the day before DD was born. The insurance went back to rhe hospital and got their money back. Luckily, we had switched to my husband's insurance after DD was born and his insurance did cover everything. It took a year to get the insurance thing figured out with the hospital. Just make sure that if you put in notice that your insurance is actually going to cover your birth!
