Babies: 9 - 12 Months

anyone else getting too thin due to BFing?

With my DD who is now 13 yrs old, I got down to 100 pounds when she was about 1 year old. NOT trying! I ate all the time like I do now but I just lose so much when I'm BF.

With my DS who is now 10 months I don't think it as bad but I don't know how much I weigh right now, only that I can wear a size 0-2 jeans. My skinny jeans are not even tight on my legs. Can you say "ew"?

Anyone else in my boat?

  • I wish I had this problem.  I can't lose my baby weight no matter what I do.

OMG this!!! I weaned at 6 mo (was 8 lbs away from PP weight) But I now have to try HARD to lose.... and I struggle to find the time AND motivation to workout, I walk with DS but know I need to do more. I think my metabolism changed for the worse after having DS

  • Yes, my LO is MSPI and getting enough calories is a daily challenge. I feel like I eat a ton of food - burgers, fried chicken, whatever is most fattening on the menu without having dairy or soy in it, but it just doesn't make up for the missing milk, cheese, butter, etc.

I'm to the point where I'm having a very difficult time keeping my supply up as my body doesn't have any extra fat to draw on. Buying new clothes is about to empty my bank account as every time I think I've evened out, I drop again. And I'm weak thanks to the fact that I cannot work out and risk my supply dropping even more. I will breastfeed as long as I need to for LO's intolerance, but I am really looking forward to weaning as soon as he's over it. Or at least not worrying about my supply any more.

  • I can't speak to the 0-2 size range, I have never been that size as I have some hips, but at 5'5.5" with DD1 I got down to 117 and I touched that a month or 2 ago then drifted up a few #s and now am 119 and can tell as my weight drifts down my appetite picks up- I'm certainly not too thin but am lighter than when I was in HS/college.  I was worried after DD1 because I'm Active Duty and by regulations there is a minimum wt and I certainly didn't want to get on any list for being lighter than minimum as sometimes I measure in at 5'6" and that minimum wt is 117.  On the other hand, my DH says my butt looks good :)  too bad my boobs are horribly lopsided!

  • I am not too thin, at all, but I have noticed that my problem areas (butt and thighs) are now smaller than they ever have been in my life. I usually lose from other places, it's odd to have my jeans hang on my butt a little. I like it.

  • Yes, my son is 10 months - I'm 10 lb under my pre-pregnancy weight, and I was a bit too skinny to begin with. I feel way too bony and I'd like to gain some back, but eating regularly with the baby getting into everything, not wanting to stay in the high chair very long, etc. is hard enough as it is, without the added issue of BFing taking so much of my calories.

  • Me! I have to eat about 3k calories daily to stay over 100 lbs. Granted, I didn't weigh TOO much more before, but 105 is my cut off point where I don't feel it's healthy anymore (I am 5'6")

  • Actually, I immediately got super skinny once I STOPPED BFing.  But I've heard of this happening to others.

  • Ugh, lucky. I wish I was 100 lbs. I felt my absolute best at the 100-105 range. I've got some weight to lose, BFing isn't helping me.

  • YES! NEVER in my life has anyone asked me if I'm ok and if I am eating. UM, my nickname all throughout highschool was BigFat because I could put away the food! My mom is very skinny and so was my grandmother. I eat all the time. I have had some nights where it is harder to eat or I don't eat as much because of the baby and her night time routine, etc. I am down to a size 2! What the heck?

I nurse the LO at night only b/c I have gotten plugged ducts every time I try to quit BFing. The annoying thing is that after I had the baby I got rid of all of my size 2 and xtra small stuff that I didn't imagine I would ever fit into again. Mainly b/c I was a size 4 pre pregnancy. I am trying to pack on the calories but it is not as easy as one might think.

I'm not one who has EVER been "skinny," but I'm about 5lbs lower than I was when I got pregnant (my son is just under 11 months). The problem is my belly! It's always been my thin area as opposed to my hips and thighs, but I'm told that some women hold fat in their bellies until they stop breastfeeding. I'm hoping I lose this fat once I stop BFing, too!
